Huge Ad sign-permission required?

I've tried to forget about it and ignored it for two years but it's still annoying me :)

There is a 12-15 ft bright yellow look-at-me-now sign opposite my house.

It's advertising a bed factory.

I wouldn't mind normally but it's such an offensive colour and it always catches my eye. (Beyond the sign there are extensive views to the hills etc so it really does stick out)

Do they need planning permission for this (because of it's size)?

This .gov downloadable PDF tells you what has automatic permission and what requires planning consent:-

Was it erected after you moved in?.

Well it would explain why the op was not consulted on it.

It did blow off once but they retrieved it (it blew off like a kite -dangerous too) and stuck it back again!

I'm tempted to post a pic but it may make it easy for my home to be identified.

The sign was erected after I moved in.

I've skim-read the pdf and it seems it may be allowed if under 4.5m but the lettering may be too large. I'll have to brave it and go out with a tape measure or else just bite the bullet and report it.

    Thanks again.

give the council a ring ,there has been an on going case locally where someone put op a sign on their own house without planning permission advertising a sons business and after years of argument it has now had to be removed.

    Hi

No, it's on a grass verge.

    Reported:
I am writing to enquire about the status of a large bright-yellow sign that is outside my home. The sign is on a grass verge opposite. I have not measured the height but I estimate it to be around 5-6 metres tall. The lettering is also very large, it says: 'BED FACTORY. OPEN TO PUBLIC' etc. I have tried to ignore this sign but it is still proving to be quite an eyesore. Furthermore the printed fascia has blown off twice, which I feel is a health and safety issue. Thanks in advance.
I hope they don't ignore my email!
