going to start to do this, especially when travelling. You spend £25 just on light refreshments before you even get anywhere!I'm challenging myself to only buy clothes from charity shops till 20th May 2012.

thats so true - motorway meals are a prime example. Take your own and just use the conveniences. Coffee and cakes at most cafes/services cost as much as a proper meal out.Do what you love :happyhear0 -
Mole Update; it's avoiding the area of the seedbeds where it was eldered-and-brambled yesterday and is now back in the strawberry beds. But not for long........evil cackle.:rotfl:Well - do please keep us informed on how the Mole Deterrent continues...and I would certainly be interested to know if you decide to do an experiment with dead brambles only down one "run" and eldertree leaves only down another - to see what Mr/Mrs Mole is most objecting to - ie whether its prickles on its snout or an awful smell up its snout iyswim:rotfl:. Think you said you'd already tried dead brambles only and the mole kept coming??? - so I am wondering if those Victorians did know a thing or two and its the eldertree leaves its objecting to most.
<Now got a mental picture of a mole there holding its nose and saying to another one "Oh no....not elder leaves.......quick...run...Mildred...":rotfl:>0 -
we also always take a flask of coffee and nibbles whenever we go out - just in case! I hate spending a lot of money on inferior coffee and food - much prefer my own and I also take 2 china mugs for the coffee:)[/QUOTE]
Even when we go on a cruise we take a thermos flask and little containers of coffee, tea, powdered milk and a packet of biscuit etc. We make up a flask for use ashore so that if (as for instance in Scandinavia) beverages are really expensive, we don't have to pay 'through the nose' for something which isn't very exciting. On a day out to a Highland Games or similar we will pack smoked salmon sandwiches, drinks, cake, fruit, etc. and avoid the long queues for the greasy burgers, etc. and have a delicious spread for next to nothing. I have no objection for paying the going rate for a good bistro/restaurant meal, however, as it's something which is much more difficult to achieve at home (this one, anyway!).Solar Suntellite 250 x16 4kW Afore 3600TL dual 2KW E 2KW W no shade, DN15 March 14

I have been packing my own picnics since it cost us 8 pounds for a coffee and 1 cake on the motorway! But now I also fill a couple of bottles with water as OH is always thirsty and its so expensive, also useful for washing things off the windscreen or shoes etc.
Monica/bertiebotshave you tried damping the rug again then laying something heavy over it, I know ice cubes get little dints out but maybe a spray bottle with chilled water in will work, you can't do any more harm but you may do some good.
veggies all doing well even the cucumbers which i am dtermined will grow. Going to plant more peas as none have come up in the beds. Pumpkin and squash plants are still tiny, but am not giving up hope yet. Sadly not one sweetcorn plant has come up and they did really well in my 3 sisters bed last year
Got my new glue gun, so the other 2 will turn up now (possibly cos I brought my big one home when I finished work, used it for building dolls houses at the Cs) So will have a multitude of glue guns soon :rotfl: Just got to knock out 60 wedding favours and 6 table settings with an Alice in Wonderland theme:o
great to see so many new people and lovely to have the input, its like a real family on here, well a virtually real family.Clearing the junk to travel light

We've had a lovely weekend; DS came to visit from that there London up there, which is always a treat. He's a fantastic cook who doesn't have much of a kitchen so loves to come down and cook us wonderful things. It would be churlish to refuse (nobody likes a churl!) so we've had a two day food-fest - joy!!!!!
He also introduced me to mint tea, which I've never made before and was delish - a handful of mint leaves in a cup, pour on boiling water, leave for a bit and drink. I always find fruit/herb teas such a disappointment- they smell great but just taste of hot water - but fresh mint tea was a revelation.
We've had plenty of rain, and some thunder and lightning, (mostly overnight which is good) so the garden is looking a lot better. We're hoping to get 2 water butts soon as we're on a water meter and have a fair sized veg plot to supply.
Hope you get the downpour you need soon GQ.0 -
ginnyknit - my sweetcorn havent sprouted either, am going to have another go but am not holding out any hope, maybe the weather was just not right for them, only one pumpkin sprouted but is now starting to grow into a strong plant. My courgettes are growing like a dream.0

Thanks for the mint tea idea mrsw!:T I have some mint growing in the garden...infact I think I also have some lemon balm -wonder if you could do the same thing with that?:D I will investigate as the smell of lemon balm is lovely and if I can make it into a drink it could be a great alternative to the excessive amounts of coffee I survive on:eek:
I tried using the kids to straighten my warped rug and the large hump in the middle seems to have gone down a bit...and moved to the edge where there is now a large ripple along about 3 ft of rug:eek::doh:..... ....hmm will try the re -wetting idea - theres nothing to loose really (thanks ginnyknit;))
After a long search on ebay I have decided against the only rugs I could afford ,as I dont think a play matt with roads will go well with my (charity shop) laura ashley curtains:rotfl:JAN GC- £155.77 out of £200FEB GC £197.31 out of £180:o. MARCH GC - out of £200

I make mint tea and lemon balm tea. Pick sprigs , wash under the tap, shove in the teapot along with one weak teabag, and make tea as normal. Lovely!0
