Good morning!
Once again it has taken me forever to catch up with the threadI really meant to stay on top of it....Ooopps!
Some very interesting posts....i love this siteSome wonderful advice and tips :T keep 'em coming! Only wish i could give some of my own, maybe one day soon
Looking at moving house-need something bigger with all the animals-and it looks as tho i'll be paying £25 extra a month, which isnt too bad i guess. Still,i want to save and pinch more pennies.I would like to double my savings in a year,im debt free now-a-days so i like to pop the extra into my ISA for a rainy day etc
I have my meal plan worked out for this week but when you take those out my fridge and cupboards look a little sorry for themselves so i will be heading to Mr T or Morrisons this week. Im in the mood to have a really big cook/bake day...Cottage pie,Lasagne,Bolo,Pasta sauce,Curry,Twinks HobNobs and whatever i fancy, all for the freezer of course:D
Veggies are coming on a treat,my runner beans are looking strong and everything else pushing through all green and fresh!! I do feel pleased with myself :j:jEmergency Savings #73 = £1,500/£2,000
Savings Pot £1,440.00

Morning all from flowertot gardens...well it rained all night and my water barrels are half full..means the garden will look lovely and green in a day or 2...
Choc-clare..congrats on the bargains..i too go for slow cooking my beef..its so tender it almost melts in your mouth..yummy..
I made my own french toast yesterday..tots loved it..bit of jam on it for them and salmon spread for me..yumyum..
Made more laundry gloop..lovely grapefruit scented bars..going cheap in the bargain box..smells gorgeous..
I do a gammon joint for eating in the week..when you add the ham in packets and how many slices you get buying a joint makes more sense..hubby slices it very thinly..got my birthday next month..maybe i should ask for a meat slicer..cheap one of course..but would be very handy...also our 25th wedding anniversary..yay..
Hubby and ds went to the lotties yesterday..said it was like the sahara desert..but good news is everything appears to be okish..our courgettes are through and so is the pumpkins..i have decided to grow peas in the garden..that way i can keep eye on them and keep the bloody birdies away from them...the rhubarb has gone all thin so doubt if we will be getting anymore from the this yr..still i got over 22lb all frozen and ready to go for making jam...
Going to have a go at making cottage cheese today..
Think i have offended my dd you know which one...i have got lots of deadwood in my garden from my trees..and i have seen on certain websites that they pick them up for free, spray paint them and then charge the earth for them..so i did my own..got lots of dried branches and painted them white..they look lovely and were free..so i gave my fake flowers to my dd..who then informed me that they were the ones she bought me last yr for my birthday..whoops!!!!..no offence intended just passing on something i no longer need..will never hear the end of it now...nevermind..
Going to do inventory of freezer and cupboards later..got a mountain of ironing to do..so i had best go and get on with it...
love to you all

I don't actually turn my elderly sheets side to middle (I hated that seam in my bed as a child!) I use old sheets to make Christmas play outfits and such like. But my mother hated waste and brought us up to be like minded. So now I am a waste hater and my DS and little family are the same. And, DD2 is really impressed with our inventive ways with left overs. DD1 is also a great little soup maker using bacon water or chicken carcasses:)

Hi silver..yep thats how i was brought up by my granny..until i had to go back to my parents...i try so hard to remember what she did..she would make her own pillowcases and always added a little lace to the edges to make them luxurious lol...i think nearly everymeal we had together had something from the meal before in it:D..my older girls are interested and i often get a call from them asking what or how to do things...my 2 tots are very into the gardening with their daddy..they have got their own veggie patch and love seeing seeds grow..plus i think they love playing with the compost...its soo nice to see that not just me and mine are doing the OS things but others are too..i feel so at home on here..feel like i could have you all to mine for a coffee or a cuppa and there would be lots of chatter and laughter...daft i know but thats how this thread makes me feel..welcome:D

i never leave home without a flask of tea and a sarnie

Hey all
I've scoured the thread this morning, lovely vibe, full of support and so much useful info in 27 pages.
Me, I am frugal but need to pull in our belt further so I'm turning myself into a sponge to try to absorb how they used to make ends meet the old way. I feel I'm as penny pinching I can me living in the modern world but living in the modern world, with the modern world's attitude to life, waste, want etc is just not sustainable.. never mind doable!
Think I've waffled. Never mind.
I'm here, and ready to learnI'm challenging myself to only buy clothes from charity shops till 20th May 2012.

Hello all. It's been a quiet weekend here. It rained most of yesterday so no allotment work done. DH has just skipped over for a couple of hours as the skies have cleared. We did an inventory of the freezers this morning and found we have so much food we won't need to shop much for a while. We've got back into whoopsie hunting in earnest - this is why the freezers are so full - as well as ongoing batch cooking. We've done 2 weeks' menus based on frozen stuff. We had an expensive April so I think a Mean May is on the cards for us too. We could do with making some space too, as it won't be long before we have gooseberries to store, then other berries to follow.
Been feeling very stressed and depressed this week for some reason. I had an appt with the practice nurse on Thursday and I burst into tears on her! I am prone to this and I have learnt over the years to recognise the warning signs. We've all been tired though, still trying to get back into the school/nursery routine. We've had some bills come in too, including €260 on the car and an accountants bill. Next week will hopefully be easier.Skint but happy with my lovely family

I'm trying not to slip back into lurkdom. So, my latest penny stretching is getting more use out of my herbal/fruit teas. I always used to put one bag in a mug and make myself a cup. I have found that one is enough for a pot of tea and one in a litre flask will give lots of good hot drinks. So not a huge saving but my box of tea bags lasts at least twice as long. (I know people have used teapots for years but it took me ages to realise that the herbal/fruit tea bags were strong enough for more than one cup).0

Oh that's me filling my flask of camomile and spiced apple first thing on a morning and dipping into it throughout the day. :T Infact I'm off to do that very thing right now. Thanks for sharingI'm challenging myself to only buy clothes from charity shops till 20th May 2012.
