Yes I feel the same ftm, way out of step with most of the other mums - although occasionally, if the wind is blowing the right way, you'll hear whisperings like "Aldi super 6" or "growing herbs" (!)

:D true..i have been asked very quietly how do you hem trousers and put a patch on..i always answer and try to be helpful..my friend who is very nice tells me i'm too soft and shouldn't help them..but if i don't then thats not the OS way..share hints and tips everywhere i can..must admit i did get a secret proud of myself moment when one mum asked me for a recipe for some little brownies i made fern for her lunch box..her ds was pestering her for them and she made them and told me they were lovely..so it all helps..
Went CS yesterday..now my no clothes thing went out the window:o..i bought a brand new pair of jeans for £2.99..a blouse and some lovely linen trousers for a £1 each..to good to pass up i'm afraid..but i lasted well i think..got fern and iris some garden clogs from lidl's and wilkos are reducing all their garden stuff..seeds,plants,bulbs,onion sets, shallots etc all half price so stocked up on seeds whilst in there...
I have been praying for rain..and it worked its raining here..yay..how sad is this we went running outside to watch the rain run out the guttering we put up and into the water barrels:rotfl:..
Getting 2 new chickens this weekend..so hopefully will be back into egg country..my 2 bluebells are going to a farm to live out their last days in the countryside..will be sad to see them go but i have to be ruthless..they are not doing what i got them for and so they have to go...
Someone was asking for help about growing food in a flat..can't remember who but if you pm me i have a book i'll post to you..its all about growing your own whilst living in a flat..the ideas are great and got lots of tips...
lots fo love to you all from the flowertot gardens...

Well, the party went well. And as with all good old style buffets, the neighbours got a feed and we'll be eating leftovers for days to come.... which is fortunate because I made the buffet using our weeks food shop which I only got in yesterday :rotfl:

Worth noting that sushi is a meal I've added to our regular list, depending on what you fill it with it's surprisingly cheap. Seems it's like a few other international foods - regarded as a cheap common meal that's not hard to make in its country of origin, but then ends up as an expensive complicated meal out in another!

Our luck seems to have returned to the upwards direction, which is rather welcome.

Hope everyone else has a relaxing weekend.

i've been out in the garden wedding it this morning and there was definately rain in the air here in Grimsby and it looks like it could bucket it down but if it's only drizzly rain where you are then it will probably fizzle out even more by the time it reaches us!!

last week i took DD to one of the childrens centres for an easter party and they were doing planting seeds and DD planted a sweetcorn seed and got to bring it home and just over a week later it's started to sprout - DD is soo happy about it, no idea what i'm meant to do with it once it's grown a bit more but oh well, it will be fun to see what happens to it!!!

have become slightly obsessed with gammon/ham, it is sooo much nicer than packaged ham and oh so much cheaper - we've been having it on sandwiches, in omlettes and salad, with chips(although not too often as it's baaad for me) as a cooked dinner with veggies

because DH and i are on a healthy eating thing at the minute(well it's gonna be forever for me, it's a lifestyle change not a diet) we went shopping on monday and got a tonne of fresh fruit and veg, yoghurts, stocked up on milk(ss for DD and skimmed for us) and stocked up on a few storecupboard bits and ended up spending half my monthly budget but i haven't had to buy anything this week(apart from another gammon) and we still have loads of fruit/veg left so i have around £50 left for the rest of the month - i'll be buying a gammon every week, along with milk and fresh fruit/veg and i do believe we can do it - also helps that we have both given up alcohol(DH till we go away and me hopefully forever  )and i won't be buying that much bread as we've both given that up too so only DD will need bread - having converted her to proper ham, i might try and convert her to wholemeal bread(be difficult as she takes after DH who hates it with a passion)

ooh and we have had a bit of good news - DD's school were advertising for casual dinner ladies, so i applied and i've been offered the job, it's on an as and when required basis, so not guaranteed hours, but i have said i want as many hours as they can give me so any wages i get from that we will totally forget we have and as soon as get paid i'll put them towards the credit card so we can get that paid off as soon as possible :)

it's took me that long to type this up, that thw sun looks like it's coming out so i might go and attempt to weed the front garden :)

It's still raining here so will go an check the water butt later.

I had a BBQ planned for DD's birthday sleepover so that might have to go in the oven now but thats OK.

Have taken my eye off the financial ball over the last few weeks and have had a shock today when I finally did the books and realised that after the remaining diret debits have come out there is £30 left for the rest of the month. I have managed to squirrel away a small amount of savings so can use that. This will be my first real test of eating from the store cupboard/freezer. Wish me luck.
I am playing all of the right notes just not necessarily in the right order :D.

Me too, I got two smallish gammon joints from the butcher van at the market on Thursday for £5. One has gone in the freezer and I stuck the other one in the slow cooker yesterday, it's now in the fridge waiting to be sliced and I've put some yellow split peas in with the stock in the slow cooker this morning to make some pease pudding. Homemade chips & ham & pease pudding for dinner tonight!

  • I've been too busy to log on much this week with school starting properly after our two day week and have loads of catching up to do.
At the moment I'm just trying to survive until all the coursework from the yr 11's goes off next Monday:eek: some of the lads still aren't finished. Sense of urgency just isn't in their vocabulary:rotfl:
I've also been asked to host a Chinese teacher for a week so am trying to think of ways to entertain her. She's from a school in rural China so it should be quite interesting. Our school has a link with theirs and we've had a visit before but I wasn't playing host. I have thought that a meal out at the local Indian could be in order.
Moneywise I've been hanging around the coupon thread and have done quite well this week, I now have enough finish quantimatic thingies for at least three months, but does anyone know of a use for the dispensers as I only need one but have 7 :rotfl:if anyone else has missed this one, the pack with a dispenser and a twelve wash fill is on special at sainsbugs for £5.08 and there's a £5 off voucher so 8p for twelve washes:j
Anyway will work my way through the thread now:)
I was off to conquer the world but I got distracted by something sparkly :D

This has got me inspired. I have taken a large gammon joint out of the freezer to cook in the slow cooker tomorrow. It can do the sunday dinner and I can thinly slice the rest and freeze it in protions for sandwiches and then make pea and ham soup from the stock like my nan used to when I was a whipper snapper.

Is pease pudding like a very thick pea and ham soup?
I am playing all of the right notes just not necessarily in the right order :D.
