Sammy have you got tinned tomatoes to add to the casserole? if so you are good to go and you can even add some dumplings or plain scones to the top. I add a bit of chilli powder too, just a pinch.

hmmm...............no tomatoes. :( but Im like the dumplings idea - but I dont have any suet!

EDIT - Just found Mr Olivers one that uses butter and flour - thin a few of them would go nicely too. =)
    Time to find me again

    hi all :)

    Hows everyone?

See we have a new thread, thanks Jackie for starting it up :)

Well its been all go over here. Only just managing to log on. We all had a great time over easter holidays, enjoyed last weekend so now its back to the grind stone.

Hardly had any rain, had a drop last night. Its still bitterly cold though when the wind picks up. But apart from that its been good.

The plants are coming along nicely, even the rhubarb survived!

Well better shoot off and do some more tidying.

Back in abit with a cuppa and a catch up.

Does anyone else find this "overweight is linked to Alzhemiers Disease," a bit suspicious? I am pretty sure that weight is only a tiny part of it, if at all, otherwise all overweight people would become gaga.
I did care work and there were more thin people with it than overweight that I came across anyway.
Maybe it is a secret scare tactic to get people dieting?

I'm with you on that one - I am fed up with all this nonsense coming out from these so called studies..........I will live my life the way I want, so what if I am termed obese  (horrible term) by whose gauge?
Why can't people be allowed to live their lives instead of worrying about death all the time.
Too many people trying to tell the majority what to do with their lives in this country IMO.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

Just done my own version of extreme couponing - but it's not very extreme I'm afraid. Still, in the circumstances, it's actually quite appropriate to say 'every little helps'

I had a Tesco money off voucher £7 off a £50 spend. So I did my shopping list very carefully in My Supermarket to come as close to £52 as possible...

I do this too, I had a £6 off WYS £40, so I worked it all out, and it came to £42, which I was pretty chuffed about. Anyway the checkout lady gave me a funny look and said "did you work that all out or what?" Of course I said yes, and I think she thought I'd been adding it all up in my head as I went along, or something!

when you think how low interest rates are, it's by far the best return around especially as it's tax free.

And it's fun trying to get as much value as possible.

In a way, I wish I hadn't got another till spit because I don't need to spend that much next week. I'm trying to have a Mean May and doing a personal mini grocery challenge. I could use it on things that I know I will use and will keep, but psychologically it will feel I've failed at keeping the spend below a certain figure
It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!

Sorry, not been on for w while.

Seems like it's turned into the gardening thread which has made me really jealous as have not been able to do a thing with my garden this year. :o Last year we grew potatoes, leeks, beans, courgettes, tomatoes, sweetcorn, radishes, strawberries, pumpkin and salad.

Instead we have emptied the spare room and decorated it for my little girl. Her room is a nursery so that is where the new baby will go. We got a really good deal on a brand new carpet and bought paint that was on offer and it worked out that we paid for one tin and got the others for free. Poor thing hasn't got a bed in there but she still insisted on moving in straight away and is sleeping on a sofa bed type thing. She loves it and that's what is important.

Not good with the neighbours here which has really raised my blood pressure but will say no more as I know it is a tetchy subject. Have been told by consultant that I need to take a step back from the situation.

Started my maternity leave two weeks early on the insistance of my consultant who told me that either I stop now or he signs me off. Baby could come at any minute as although I am 37 weeks I am mearuring at 44 weeks! The amniotic fluid is also increasing which he is concerned about.

After the big clean out of the new room we now have all the spare stuff piled around the house which I am trying to go through. Most of it is in the nursery but I can sort that once the little one arrives as he will be in our room for a few months. Rocking cradle is up, new mattress put in and nappies all stocked up!

Will really have to knuckle down and be very OS as my pay will gradually dwindle to a big fat £0!

Anyway, enough prattling about me need to go and pick up my little girl from the childminders (we decided to keep her there for a few more weeks to give me the opportunity to rest and sort things out!)

    Hugs to all.

Jedi - I was wondering how you were doing, I think it is probably the best thing to take your maternity early - it gives you a chance to rest before the birth - lets be honest birth is hard enough without being worn out from working till the last minute. :)
You have managed such alot and done brilliantly by the sounds of it - so you can now put your feet up knowing you deserve it. :) As for the garden if you dont manage it then so be it your health is way more important - but if you do give birth early maybe you can plant just a couple of things even now - I have cucumber seeds I am waiting to plant and the packet says I can sow them outside any time now.

jediteacher, amazing amount acheived, sounds like nesting going on there! I see you have allowed for resting but havent done any ??? :)

I too am a large lady, who used to be extremely fit too but my enforced retirement seems to have put paid to that with the speed that arthirtis has crippled me. But I keep on trucking. I have experience with caring for an aged P with Altzheimers , my Mil had it for many years and I feel that their life stories can often show the cause of the disease as well as many factors. She was a little sparrow of a woman, about 6 stone soaking wet all her life - so sod that theory!

I have also done my version of British extreme couponing - I got a 1 pound off voucher for fairy liquid -:T:T:T I wish we could do the USA'a way cos everyone on here would be really good at it. i certainly don't mind all that preparation if you get so much for it!!!

It looks like rain here again lets hope it was more than yesterdays dribble. been to Ikea for Dgs's mattress, I love Ikea stuff but the lighting in there makes me ill and the escalator was really weird, I was pushing DGS in a shopping trolley and it was held in place all the way down, which is good but a scary feeling of being released at the end. Came out feeling washed out , but only bought exactly what I went for :j
