I don't know - she's barely out of her sick bed and she's causing trouble :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

And it doesn't matter what you call them, they're both horrid :(

If you're struggling to get your tomato's to ripen hang a banana skin over them on the vine ;)

Ginnyknit - nothing to stop you from having a go but the lack of light would be a problem in the short winter days.

Announcement - my tomato is ready to eat :T:T:T Mind you it would rattle around in an eggcup so I'm not planning anything too ambitious just yet:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

I have started The Turnip Wars. The early tomatoes were Latah, and I'm not sure how many hours of sunlight or daylight they need to ripen...I can ask though. I will get them again as they were terrific.

Might have guessed you would be causing war! Have you got a blue face yet and running around the room shouting "freedom!"?? :rotfl::D

And it's not my fault. I only mentioned a recipe! :A

I had to harvest some of these http://www.garden4less.co.uk/vegetable-explorer-petrowski-turnip.asp petrowski turnips and there is a picture on that site. They are lovely, really are mild and creamy and so lovely roasted and in fact the best turnips ever. I looked under the leaves today and they were large and just had to be picked, so I brought a good 2 kilos home, where I already had 3 in the fridge

My trusty de-hydrator came to the rescue again and I steam blanched turnip slices for 3 minutes. Cooled and am dehydrating now, I have had a peek and they have shrunk and are almost hard so yippee thats another veg sorted for winter. They`ll be excellent in casseroles

I wasn`t going to do much today but have spent the whole time on my feet again and the last 2 hours cleaning and sorting the garlic and trying to plait them but I couldn`t get more than 11 bulbs on a braid as the braids got fatter and fatter

Tomorrow we are having stuffed marrow and I see that another 3 are growing rapidly on the 1 plant that I have, so I bought ginger for marrow and ginger jam as well

Tbh all this harvesting is very busy and time consuming as I don`t waste stuff but I`m also looking forward to the break in mid summer when I hope it all slows down for a while.

It`s good to know the names of veg like latah, I`ll write it down for next year

Fuming now - I had a bunch of Latah but due to my situation at the time they got neglected and died  .......... just checked my seed box and I've got 10 Latah seeds left :j. I deliberately went for a variety that was an early one as I wanted to extend the tomato season as much as possible. V pleased to hear that they turned out well, Mardatha. I'll race you next year :rotfl:

Kittie - you don't have to plait the whole stem - just do a few plaits for each then snip the rest off - should be enough to hold them.

will look into other early veg varieties I think, they seem to do well up here. But I got swiss chard that was supposed to be indestructible and it all died.
