I tried going vegan but couldnt give up chocolate! That vegan chocolate is gros!
!!
Have you tried carob powder? Its available from health food shops and, when I get chocolate urges, then I tend to scatter some of it liberally over something suitable (eg plain yogurt with some fruit chopped up in it and maybes a few nuts - I then scatter carob powder over that and its quite yummy). I seem to recall I've mixed some honey in with plain yogurt before now and added in some carob powder and frozen that to eat as a "sorta" icecream.
So - I would imagine its easy enough to swop ordinary yogurt for a vegan variety and make up similar "dishes".
I do like carob just as much as chocolate - its not a "poor relation" substitute in my book - so might be worth trying it out for you.0 -

...and me...hope things come good for you soon Reverbe.
I would have thought that if your flatmate has been paid basic salary plus commission that they couldnt just swop him to commission only. There are the provisions of National Minimum Wage for a start - and he should be getting at least that by law I would have thought (if memory serves aright - its currently basically £5.93 per hour - assuming he's in oldest age group). He should go onto the Employment Forum on this Board and ask what his position is legally.
There are a couple of legal eagles that visit that Forum regularly - in particular Sar El. Sar El is often on there and puts her replies very clearly - so that the average layperson in the street can readily understand the situation. I suggest he specifically requests her advice on this.0 -

yes but not if you have a very mucky wash. I use them for 4 out of 5 washes0 -

The question on the eco balls apparently they last 150 washes. i dont know if thats any help.
Also thank you for the tips about the alternative to chocolate i will definately have to have a look into that!
I guess im a pretty much all or nothing kind of person and i seem to make myself feel guilty if i cant stick to something!
But i am going to be re evaluating the meats and dairy we eat over the next few weeks when ive had more time to look into everything and am doing our meal plans!
Hubby has started on the carpet cleaning and pops has said he will collect it tomorrow which saves us a one way petrol cost
But better get on now and do some housework :rotfl:cant have him seeing the state of it as it is now!! :eek:Everything is always better after a cup of tea0 -
Please can someone tell me what I do wrong ? When I post a quick reply I have and 'edit' thing not a 'thanks' at the bottom. Sorry I am so hopeless. Please help ! thankyou

Just wanted to say sorry to Reverbee. You've come so far it will be your turn for some good luck soon. Also sorry for the rest struggling on low incomes.
You'd have recognised me this morning if you had been in the supermarket as a fellow MSEer. Anyone see someone at the cheese shelves clucking and chuntering and squinting at the price per kg? That would be me. Last lot of cheese I bought was £5.20somethingish about a fortnight ago. This week it is nearer £6.40somethingish. In a FORTNIGHT! If I didn't live with a cheese monster I would have gone without. We'll all be in the poorhouse soon.0 -
Hi all,
Sorry can't remember who asked about pesto but a good subsitute for pine nuts is sunflower seeds, they don't whizz (or bash if you are doing it properly with a pestle and mortar) quite as well so you get a slightly chunkier pesto but flavour wise it works well and sunflower seeds are much cheaper!!:D
Speaking of cheaper I walked past Julian Graves when I was in town yesterday and they have the easiyo packet things 25% off at the moment if anyone uses them. Few other good deals on as well.0 -
7 week wonder, Hugh FW has made pesto from kale, broad beans and parsley so i think anything green that you like the taste off would be good.

Hugs for all that need one tonightMoving towards a life that is more relaxed and kinder to the environment (embracing my inner hippy:D) .:j0 -
We finally have a result from our fight with the DSS after they cut OH's DLA - All his benefits have been re-instated and some back pay:j:j
We can pay bills again :T and carry on our mission to be debt free. I actually felt faint as I opened the dreaded brown envelope. Apparently they stopped it without receiving the report from their doctor, once they read it they did a complete turn around. After such good news I hoped OH would feel better, yes he did for a couple of hours, then managed to tweak a nerve in his back and I had to half carry him back in the house from the carHe is in bed and hopefully will be better tomorrow.
Reverbe, I am so sorry that you got bad news, its a bad situation but employers seem to think they can do what the flippin heck they want nowadays.
Went for a quick trip round Dunelm Mill today, they have a sale on. Last week i saw a crochet throw similar to the ones I make - 26.99, today 99p - how can they make reductions like that? Got a nice piece of fabric to recover the dining chairs for a pound, it was sealed in a bag but because it was cream I thought it would do, when I got it home it was Rennie Macintosh pattern so will be making something else with it now as it is beautiful.Clearing the junk to travel light
Saving every single penny.
I will get my caravan0
