Been a good MSE day today:)

I'm still tying myself up in knots re moral dilemmas about taking advantage of being a local in my area - but find that things have come my way today anyways on that basis. Walk into a shop and ask to buy something and get told "This is the best one - do you want that one?"..."yes please...thank you". Just had in a workman doing a small DIY job for me and asked him "How much?" at the end and told him the price he quoted at the end wasnt right/it wasnt fair to him and paid him twice as much as he had asked for for his labour. Cue = we were both happy with that and thought we had a good deal. I still think I had a VERY good deal - even at twice the price he had asked for his labour. My father thinks I should "start playing the Locals card":eek::cool: (he commented that he'd only "played the advantage he had" card once and told me the reason why...so dont overdo it in other words...but there ARE times when.....) - oh boy.......

Anyways....back to food...and right now...I've got an MSE recipe for Saag Aloo cooking up for the first time and looking promising:).

...and the question right now....as I've been reading a book recommended on MSE later (a SusunWeed one - and ...yep...I bought it...so thats one more for my "library":o) - I'm now looking for a good source of supply for wild violet seeds. It could be yer standard violet seeds - but its the WILD ones I want...so if anyone knows of somewhere suitable...'twould be muchly appreciated please.:)

I prefer butter and can cope with its solidity. I'll stick to making butter in the Kenwood (if I ever find whoopsied cream before you lot snap it all up :rotfl:)

    Lizzy

I must admit, I prefer real butter, too. My OH INSISTS on Lurpak Spreadable, even though, as I pointed out to him, it's made with butter and VEGETABLE OIL and isn't 'pure' butter. It's also from Scandinavia, where the milking cows are kept indoors most of the year and fed on cereal concentrates. This is not a natural diet for them and the reason why Lurpak is so pale in colour - it's the chlorophyll in green vegetation which makes it a golden colour. It's been proven that butter made from milk from organically or grass-only-fed cattle is higher in 'good' fats than that from cattle fed cereal concentrates.

Oops, that was an unexpected little rant-lette, there! :D

Also, why is it amost always men who cannot be prised away from the brands their mums bought? :p

I get bad vibes about places and mostly I am proved right....

My 2 sons & I rented a house that I knew from teenage years had a fatal fire - nobody around would rent it so it became a community centre-type house for 25 years until the HA who I rented from bought it. We never worried about it, mainly because I knew its history (me & my family lived 500yds away) but others who thought I didn't know tried to turn me against it.

....I would like to see that 1940s house somebody was talking about in some museum - wonder if anybody in the country has actually done that look and re-created it in their home?

Our next-door-but-2 neighbour has a 1930's home - he's kept the house just as when it was built, no CH just the fires, original leaded windows with stained lights, period furniture etc....even down to his trilby!

HH - congrats and glad it all went well. There was a piece on handfasting on the radio this evening - sounded fascinating and a very personally tailored way to make vows to each other.

I heard that - it sounded very individual and personal to the couples.
Congratulations Hester - will you be going for a renewal in a year and a day?
