Sammy Kaye - I agree with what others have said. Don't bid for that freezer as it looks very tatty & I would be worried about the hole. Also doesn't say how old it is present owner has had it 5 years & was 2nd hand then. Also if it broke down all your money saving efforts would be wasted & you would lose your stockpile & money.
Tried my homemade yogourt on my breakfast muesli this morning. Really lovely. I don't think I'll be buying ready made except maybe as a 'starter' for my own.0 -
Yeah, Kimatsu. When I'm down about having very little 'free' money I have to remind myself why we're in the situation we're in and that's because I gave up my job to look after our children. Simple really. I should have that in my signature to always remind me and not to moan.
The future will be brighter for us one day I'm sure (if I continue to work hard for our future that is)

Darn it!! I had an idea I cant keep dried food out on open display because of this and I know I have to keep nuts in the fridge -".
really? i didnt know this i just leave mine in a bag in the cupboard , what happens if you dont refridgerate them?
i have lots of storage jars and cereal dispensers, they are all clear plastic ones, i think the last lot i got were from l!dl. but i keep them out of sight in the cupboards0 -
A very slow start to the day here. Dh dropped youngest son at school and I went back to bed. I can't remember the last time I did that. But I feel refreshed. I am going to have some lunch then off to Lidl. I will bake some bread when I get back.
The garden has had a good soaking. The snails are out in force. Not the best part of gardening punishing snails for attacking potatoes and sunflowers.
You have all got me in the mood for sorting out my cupboards. I hade planned on plastic boxes but now I think I will get glass jars. I already have a couple of jars.
I am going to making scotch pancakes this afternoon. I just fancy some and must confess I have always bought them in the pass but I will give it a go making them this afternoon.GC 2011 Feb £626.89/£450 NSD3/7 March £531.26/£450 April £495.99/£500 NSD 0/7 May £502.79/£500

I am glad those days are over for us, it was very hard work making small talk with strangers, who you knew could help the business to grow and hence keep people in work. The trips I liked best were the ones to a box at the races, lunch and tea included. The long weekend in Rome and ditto in Paris. The evening dinners were harder and many a time I have had to work hard to stay awake during the long speeches and some of the council run ones were mega. Anyway those days are long over now so I won`t dwell
All that bonding helped because when the half salary request came from the MD one day in the 70s, every single person offered to go on half pay with full hours just so no-one had to lose their job
Business is often about who you know and the funny handshake, which dh never had. Very closed shop really
I think you missed the point I made about my boss working hard, then playing hard. He is at Ascot for fun and for every pound he spends or has spent getting there, there are 10 people who are gaining financially in some way or another. I'm quite sure the bookie will be the person who gains the most0 -
Can anybody tell me how to make good muesli? What do you all put in it and where do you get it?0

I came on to cheer myself up - it's miserable here. Drizzly rain - you know the kind that gets you really wet? (as opposed to the drier stuff:D)
On a bit of a downer today - did my weekly shop in Asda this morning and was horrified that it was between 25 and 30% more than usual. So many offers seem to have ended - the Hovis bread has been 2 for £2 for months - now back to £1.15 per loaf. There was no butter under £1.50, all the cheaper ones were empty. All the "deals" seemed to be on processed food and I wanted some muller youghurts but the best offer was 10 for £4 - they were 25p each a few weeks back and I can't bring myself to pay any more.
I knew I would have one small extravagance as I needed to buy 2 pots of mascarpone cheese for Sunday night's dessert. Mum asked me to make stuffed peaches/nectarines/[plums whatever I could get. Sometimes I feel really mean as I don't make dessert during the week, unless it's something like stewed apples or rhubarb.
I've used the french stick for breadcrumbs and frozen them so hope they will be ok. At 10p for the stick (the birds and I shared the other one) it won't be a disaster if it doesn't work.
I love to watch Ascot, I like to see the outfits and hats and it's something I'd like to do at some point (well maybe Ayr Races will do for me). I don't judge anyone for being there, there is no way of knowing their circumstances and assumptions are dangerous things to make.
Hubby and I have 2 holidays a year and we work very hard and plan very well to make those happen. We don't smoke or drink (the odd glass of wine only) or eat out so we can spend the money in other ways. Life is about choices and what you make of it. What's for one person is not for another. People shouldn't be pilloried for doing certain things- if they weren't at Ascot many people who work there wouldn't be needed.
It may be hard sometimes but we should live and let live0 -

Has anyone ever seen a poor bookie:D‘Keep your eye on the donut and not on the hole.’ David Lynch.

scottishminnie, french bread is fine for breadcrumbs: I use it all the time.
Sorry, I would have replied sooner but I thought someone else would have by now0 -
Can anybody tell me how to make good muesli? What do you all put in it and where do you get it?
I buy the ingredients in my local health food shop. I make up a mixture of flakes (jumbo oats, oats, barley flakes, rice flakes, quinoa flakes, buckwheat flakes, wheat bran, oat bran, wheatgerm etc in whatever combination I happen to have), then mix dried fruit (apple rings, apricots, dates, figs, blueberries, cranberries, cherries, raisins, currants, sultanas) in whatever combination appeals (I chop the big things up) and add chopped nuts (hazelnuts, almonds, walnuts, brazil nuts) and seeds (pumpkin, sunflower, linseed, sesame). I tend to keep the flakes in one jar and the fruit/nut/seed mix in another. When I want muesli I mix 25g from each jar in a bowl, and if I'm planning ahead for once, I add 100g yogurt and leave in the fridge overnight.0
