I keep all my unprocessed nuts and seeds in the fridge or freezer, there is definitely a difference in the quality if they aren't stored correctly, and you're quite right Ceridwen, it is because the oils can turn rancid.

    Evening all!

In an attempt to revive my poor tomatoes I made a temporary greenhouse today using plastic sheeting and tarp clamps (the one I made earlier in the week collapsed grrr). I am hoping this will work but fear all I have done is create a wind tunnel!

Had home-made bread and a kind of barley pottage thing from the freezer tonight for tea. Home-made bread isn't very good for the waistline, is it? :rotfl:

I've been haunting the freebie board for a couple of days. I'm trying to get free samples to put in mini pamper kits to use as stocking fillers at Christmas. Just as a little extra.

I'm hoping to go to a car boot sale tomorrow. Is it sad that I am looking forward to this?:D

To add my tuppenceworth to the 'what's important in life' discussion - I almost always give thanks, as I snuggle down in bed at night, that I have somewhere safe, sheltered and clean to sleep. There are millions who don't even have that.

(Might add that the level of cleanliness depends on whether or not Bruno, my dog, has managed to sneak onto my bed during the day, the rascal! :rotfl:)

mardatha one of these days we are going to send you a care package full of kale, chard, spinach and lettuce:rotfl::rotfl:and require photos of you eating it:j

Hasn't stopped raining here ALL day. Yuck. And I have a soggy dog lying at my feet and boy does he smell of wet dog.

Mmmm. Must check on my tomato plants. (wanders off to the greenhouse)

I just keep mine out of the light in cupboards, but if you spoke to my friends they'd explain that I don't really need a fridge... They all bring extra layers when they visit!

I travel a lot for work and take my own toiletries as I never know what I'll get in the hotels. I keep the nice stuff for stocking fillers :)
  • Hello All!

Well, after several months of having a read through this thread every now and again, I have finally poked my head above the water of the Grabbit pond to have a chat in pastures new!

I would just like to say what an inspiration each and every one of you are, and the ideas, thoughts, recipes, help, etc, that you come up with and share are an absolute credit to you, especially to those who, bless them, really are having a tough old time of it.

Having parents who divorced when I was only 5 and ending up in a council flat, I was certainly brought up the OS way! What my Mum could do with a pound of mince and some potatoes was incredible, but you lot would know all about that! ;)

Whilst I am now by no means penny rich, I am certainly life and happiness rich, and it's reading threads like this one that add to my warm glow, especially on a day like today, it's absolutely tipping it down outside my house (my veggies are loving it though :D)

    Thank you X

Not OS I know but it made me think of some posters on this site. On BBC2 now coast is on and its the path from Glasgow to Edinburgh, it is hard to believe with scenery and landscape as spectacular as it is, that it is part of the same island. I want to drive across the bridge in Edinburgh. What a lovely place Scotland is.

The only trouble is the time and needing to be around to put the bread in the oven and keep an eye on it. I'm thinking of scheduling a baking day/afternoon to stock up on biccies, bread, fruit loaves etc - do handbaking people do that - does it seem feasible??

Yes, I do that, it's great fun getting things to co-ordinate so that they go in/come out of the oven at the right time otherwise you can have your oven wasting heat while you are getting the next thing ready.

Also it makes a LOT of washing up, but at the end of the day when all is done the satisfaction is tremendous.

Can someone please confirm that it is infact summer as I went round my mates tonight for a Chinese and we were talking about wood prices. He had a burner put in last year and so hasnt had the full effect of the prices yet. Told him to get his coal in now. So I came home and have lit "Steve".

On another note, I have a nice new spangly tent - which I cannot put up as it is throwing it down!!
