OMG Guys that extreme couponing programme on discovery shed tonight(sky-under lifestyle channels)

It was like old style !!!!!! for us lot:rotfl:As we talked so many times in past about stockpiling.

This was american and they all had huge basements and racking enough stocks same as cornershop and had groceries all round house.

    hundreds of soaps
    over 1000toiliet rolls
    hundreds ofcereals.

one lady said her overstocks wereas beutifal as herfamily.

Showed 4people tonight one lady bill came to 1200dollars b4coupons then after coupons were deducted came to 5dollars:j

Another lady in order to use her coupons did17sepearate transactions took cashier like an hour to put it all through.

One lady brought 77 bottles of mustard I mean why?
Another lady meal planned 60days ahead had meticulous lists/planning despite having 6kids.
Plus 5hours in a supermarket:eek:hubby can barly stand one he hates tesco extra as too big!

I couldnt get my head around the first woman who had the $1,200+ bill, she brought all that mustard adn then in the aisle turned to her husband and said 'oh yeah I forget you dont even like mustard!':eek::eek:

Have to admit their organisation skills were awesome and if I though tI could honestly do that then I'd have a go but the couponing system here is so different to ours. Especially when they have the double couponing offer thing too and the $10 off on a Thursday etc.

I mean I do use coupons for baby products and in shops but I have no idea if they'd even allow you near a shop door with a binder and box full like those women had!

I wonder if it is do able - but no way in holy flip am I waking up for a 5am food shop!

Have to say I have successfully worn my freezer down. So now all it contains is a quarter of a packet of peas, a loaf of bread and a few sausages. So it will get a nice defrost later today - as well as the fridge being cleaned ready for me to challenge myself to the living off reduced sections challenge I set myself. :)

Other than that not a lot happening.

Got to rub shoulders with some very hunky welsh rugby stars yesterday at Ben's rugby tournament. :p:p:p Definitely brightened up a very windy/dark day.

Cottage Pie for tea seeing as Owen took the last of my whoopsied mince out yesterday. Will be bulking out with porridge oats.

Does anyone know if I hand blend porridge oats if I would be able to get the same consisitancy as ready brek - Holly May is loving porridge and wondered if I could do this as a big bag of oats is much cheaper than the other stuff - I have a stick blender.

Right - not paid till the 10th so off to take stock of whats in the cupboards and see how far my £5 will ssssstttrrrrreeeeetttttccccchhhhh!:eek: until Ihave to ask Owen for a £10! :o

As for mortgage insurance, we've not been able to have it previously because of hubbys contract. So we just make sure we have enough cash as redraw or savings to pay at least 6 months.
Just remember, its not always all its cracked up to be... if you can overpay, remember you can always use that to cover any 'holiday' needed. And what's the worst that could happen? Well, you might have to move back to somewhere smaller. Have a look, and see how you feel about the place. Sometimes you know the moment you walk in...

I have to agree re mortgage insurance. I'd rather put the money into rainy day savings.

My friend had every kind of insurance and went to claim for it when he developed crippling fibromyalgia, which has prevented him from working.

FIVE YEARS LATER, he has finally won an out-of-court settlement. Really not what you need, to be battling when you are ill

Culpepper..we got rid of our car totally last yr..was a bit daunting at first but saved us loads of money..our bikes are our treasures now..we can still go where we want just takes planning..
Sammy k..good luck with your challenge..welsh rugby stars lol..green with envy here..i love rugby..gets on my families nerves a bit but so does peppa bloody pig and i still let them watch it.
Right today is another NSD..had quite a lot of those this past few wks and i like it..got crafts planned today..my eldest dd went to the coast last wk and got her little sisters bags of seashells and our trees in the garden and dropping deadwood,so we have collected it and we are going to make little name signs with the twigs and i am going to paint some of the bigger ones for a display in living room...got lots of loo roll innards..so the seashells will be stuck to them to make mini light-houses..
I loved that couponing programme..thing is over in usa they have dedicated papers for it..over here they don't..good grief could you imagine the queue at as*a if we all turned up with that many coupons...they would soon put a stop to it..wish they would do more things like that over here..and not just on the stuff that they are promoting..

Not to change the subject entirely, but I have just started the 2011 vintage marmalade.

I used a different method for making marmalade this year and, while it is still very tasty, its consistency leaves something to be desired. In other words, it shows a distinct tendency to run down your arm while you're eating your toast :(

Any good rescue suggestions? I could tip all the jars back in the preserving pan and boil up again, I suppose, or should I add extra pectin?

What do you marmalade grandes dames think?

Best to blitz the oats in their raw state into a "powder" then make up as you do ready brek - I did mine in the micro for a couple of minutes. Easy peasy and no added salt n sugar for bubs.

If you make up the porridge and then blend it - you get a horrible gluey mess - Go On!!!! Ask me how I know that???:rotfl:

Forgot to add to my post that Ive decided to lose weight and tone up.

Weighed myself on Saturday morning and I'm down to 11st 11lbs. Which if I'm brutally honest was before football and as Ben was running around for 3 hours and I missed breakfast was followed by sausage and chips from the chippy - first proper meal I've probably eaten in about 6 months and only because Holly was still asleep in her buggy!

So have decided to start taking the mountain bike out 5 nights a week - (being that I work 2 of them as well) for 30 minutes - this should act as a good destressing exercise at the end of the day too.

And dedicating 15 minutes a day to my 'your shape' on the XBOX. I got it for christmas and think I have done it twice. if that. :o

that along with properly eating, housework, running around after two small children, and the school run four times a day should help me on my way - not included in that is the 12 hours worth of heavy lifting I do and all the walking in work, mixed with the 1hr walks to and from town that I do once a week. :money:

Oh stupid me - I meant blending the raw stuff then making up like ready brek but nice to know it is manageable as Holly and Ben love it for their breakfast and supper!
Plus save me a fair bit because based on the 750g box
Ready Brek brand is : £2.49
    Mr T own brand box is : £1.49 :)
    Mr T Value Oats (1kg) is : 75p :D
Think its worth a try to save me almost £2!

Really do think I need to get on the OS/ Super Scrimping/ Extreme Couponing band wagon now! Especially since when we looked at the houses the rent is going to be an extra £70 a month!

So need to get my EXTREME OS ways back ASAP!

I read somewhere that if you like the flavoured ready-brek style porridge that half a spoonful of jelly crystals would do the trick. Not one that I've tried though.

    Good morning,

I'd like to join in with this thread if that's alright. I did post on one of the old "tough" threads, but since then I haven't had much time to post. For those of you who don't know me, I'm the widowed mum of one small boy (aged 6) living on a small widows pension, widowed parents allowance and child benefit. I'm also trying to lose weight so my son has a healthy parent - we thought my husband was healthy too, but that turned out to be wrong! In spite of my weight, my cholesterol is OK, which is good. I'm following slimming world and going to classes as if I'm not accountable every week, I don't stick to it...... I have now lost 10% of my original body weight since the beginning of February. The nice thing about slimming world is there is no special food to buy.

I've been sorting out my garden after last years building work to the house left the garden in tatters. Most of the time I couldn't get into the garden, and the builders dumped lumps of brick, rubble etc all over it while they were working. I have it sorted now, with a small decking area in the sun (for me), a small shady area with a little bench (for the boy) and pots of "things". I have herbs, tomatoes (in hanging baskets), strawberries (also in baskets), beetroot and lettuce in pots and raspberries in the borders. I also have a patio apple tree and a cherry tree and some blueberry bushes. I was reading about the companion planting with interest as I did plant marigolds one year. They were all gone by the time I got up the next day.

Take care all of you, and gailey for what it's worth I agree that if you manage to get dressed or brush your hair and teeth then you're doing well.
