One possibility for green energy is using tidal energy from seabed turbines as opposed to tidal bores like the Severn. The tides are totally predictable and regular but they vary, obviously re timing and height. But it can all be part of the mix.

This seems something really worth pursuing - going to be trialled off the W.Wales coast I think - apparently only certain sites are suitable, but we have a lot of coastline! Also., don't know if we make full use of hydro electric - from rivers/falls.

Up at this hour because I saw the downstairs lights on - DD must have forgotten to switch them off - not very energy efficient!

Claudia - apparently you can buy a gadget that allows you to sharpen disposable razors... not sure of the details but I've heard a few people mention it now. It's not cheap, but apparently neither are the blades :)

Taps head - something surfacing in memory re peeps a while back putting razor blades in home-made cardboard pyramids to re-sharpen them. Something to do with the pyramid shape preserving things (thinks - is that why they put the Pharaohs in them??).

Think some peeps tried putting food items into home-made "pyramids" as well.

Now the big question is - did it actually work? Does anyone know?

Re leftover whey - another use is to replace some of the liquid in breadmaking. I've certainly used up some whey in place of some of the water in my standard home-made bread before now and 'twas fine.

I think the noise of a windfarm is like the noise of pigeons wings as they swish past above you. :) But then I've got a funny mind. I know this.
My question du jour is --- how do you get that nice rich thick brown gravy on stews? My gravy is thin and horrible :(

Mardartha -If i am making stew I coat the meat in flour, brown in a pan,add whatever veg I am using to heat it up, tip into slow cooker with an oxo crumbled in, and use a little gravy granules at the end to thicken. I find the flour does most of the thickening so only a wee drop of granules are needed. I use the supermarket own brand since they do the same job, just sometimes they are a bit lumpy, so you need to crush them a little as they go in.
Bet I am doing it wrong!

scottishminnie I grind my sugar into caster sugar in my fp or in the blender jug of my Kenwood. Just watch it until it is the consistency you require.

Thanks for that - will have a little experiment with my blender tonight:D

I have windfarns all round me and I hardly notice any noise. I think its just a lot of people fussing. They're amazing things to watch, too. Not sure how many bats you would get flying around on hilltops and open moors lol. Don't think bats do that?
TY to the person who gave me the Biggar wholefoods shop, I was in there once and had forgotten about them :)

We have a couple near us and I'm quite mesmerised by them. I don't find them noisy and I think they are actually very majestic.

Maybe I'm odd though - we were in Kansas last year and passed by this wind farm with 170 turbines and I was fascinated. I could have watched them happily for days:)

I keep my disposable razor in a jar half filled with oil,at the moment it is av*n bath oil but I have used veg oil and olive oil. It keeps it sharp and rust free for ages,a packet of razors lasts me at least a year.

I have 3 power stations close by and 2 wind farms.

I have heard people moan about the power stations being ugly but I think that there is a certain 'industrial splendour' about them.

However, the wind turbines are like 'fairies' on the landscape. How could anyone find them obtrusive?
