Trying to catch up with all your posts buts I'm only up to page 91, help! If I wait till I catch up it will be August :rotfl:. Hope you are all ok but forgive me if I waffle first and catch up after.
It's been one hell of a roller coaster weekend and I think from now on I'd like to ban any further bank holidays for the rest of the year. The last two 'Ancient one' tried to fall off his purch and he did it again on Sunday
However the roller coaster started on Saturday. We were in a local nursery getting some water plants for our newts to wrap their babies in which I'd seen watching Chelsea Flower show, when DH's phone rang and my distraught DD was crying into the receiver. DGS had just fallen down the stairs and she was so frightened. He's only just started crawling and she'd been saying they must get a gate for the top of the stairs. Thank god he was absolutely fine, but him mum wasn't. SIL was working so DH and I went and bought a gate and DH fitted it that afternoon while I did odd jobs for her while she and baby had a nap. We only just had time to change when we finished before going off to meet DS2's future wife's family for a BBQ. It was a lovely evening and future MIL made a cheesecake to die for, it was gorgious, must get the recipe but not sure waste line can take it. :T Got to bed feeling totally cream crackered knowing DGS was spending the day with us the next day.
I thought it was odd that 'Ancient one' (A1) wasn't in our room when I woke up, but found him camping out in the hall. Called him for breakfast - nothing - went and offered him his food where he was - nothing. All morning he refused to eat or drink and wouldn't or couldn't get up. DH and I carried him into his bed which we'd put in the kitchen and there he lay looking very peaceful. SIL arrived with babe but I asked for his parents number incase we needed someone to take over babysitting. In a way it was good to have the little one to distract us.
A1 was leaking urine by this time so DH went off to get some puppy training pads and I suggested a Jumbone. Meanwhile DS2 had had me weeping in his arms as DH and I had decided if there was no improvement we would have him put to sleep today (Tuesday). When DH arrived home with the Jumbone A1 perked up enough to devour it in seconds. Since then he's made steady progess, back on his feet and following me round in the garden yesterday while I planted up tubs with (sorry folks very un-OS) bedding plants.:D Looking very regal, nose in the air sniffing in all the earthy smells. Still having trouble getting him to eat but he had toast and another Jumbone (they were on offer DH said :rotfl:) this morning and lamb mince and rice will be for tea, fingers crossed. The vet said she didn't care what he eats so long as he's eating, adding that it's very rare she says that!
So good folk of this threat, this OSer has blown the budget big time on plants for newts, nappies for the dog, Jumbones, food to tempt the dog and a pair of walking boots I'd just tried on in the nursery when DD phoned (excellent price and mine are on their last legs). Feel like I've been put through a mangle but so thankful that my old friend is with us still. Every day is a blessing so long as he's happy. I love him to bits.
Off now to do some more catching up before getting tea. Take care all."It came to me that every time I lose a dog they take a piece of my heart with them. And every new dog who comes into my life, gifts me with a piece of their heart. If I live long enough, all the components of my heart will be dog, and I will become as generous and loving as they are." Unknown0 -
Suzid, I have two dogs and they are so precious so I understand how you feel about your boy. I will have all this to come in a couple of years time as mine are now 12 and 13. They always live inside your heart, though. I'll be hysterical when the time comes for mine.
Anyway, I hope you are feeling more settled today. I love your signature!Aspire not to have more but to be more.

Last year I was getting rid of a dining room table and 6 chairs so as they were in very good condition thought I would do the charitable thing and offer them to a local charity which specialises in furniture.
I called them and explained what I had - they asked for me to email them photos of each of the 6 chairs, front, back and seats and half a dozen or so photos of the table, top, legs etc etc and they would get back to me. I have to say I wasn't best pleased but did it and they called back to say the table etc was obviously immaculate and they would be delighted to have it if I could just confirm how much of a donation I would be making.
I was a tad confused and said what do you mean, I'm donating the furniture? I was them informed they would be looking for a minimum of £25 towards their fuel costs for uplifting the furniture (a total of 8 miles away). I was less than charitable at that point and told them where to get off. I then advertised the table and chairs in a local shop and got £200 for it.
Sometimes you couldn't make it up the bare faced cheek of people:mad:0 -
Suzid - love your signature and hope A1 is feeling a bit more perky today. If you have a local butchers ask them if they have any chicken necks they can mince up for you (my old boy loved those with rice) and liver is always a good one. Dont know how good his tummy is but you can always try pilchards if he is not eating much - never known a dog able to resist those!
The budget will still be there next month and time with the pooch is far more precious xFree/impartial debt advice: Consumer Credit Counselling Service (CCCS) | National Debtline | Find your local CAB0 -

Ceridwen - have you looked at the river cottage website. I think there is a free online course which goes through which plants are edible and how to cook them. Ah found it here:
http://courses.rivercottage.net/ at the bottom is edible seashore and edible hedgerow. I too am a country girl, and so do tend to grow a fair few plants of my own for home use. For clients though it has to be bought in as otherwise it doesnt comply with health and safety, and enviromental health!!
Softstuff - my thoughts are with you, but yes I think you are right, she is waiting for you. I volunteer in a hospice and I see it quite often, my grandmother did the same thing too. The nurse had to ring my mum and tell her that however long it took her, my grandmother would wait, we went down the next day, mum saw grandma, who wanted to make sure she would be buried next to my grandfather, and once she had that she passed on within 12 hours. She obviously thinks a lot of you
Thanks for that - I hadnt realised that those courses are part of the website. Have saved it to go and have a good look at later. Ta:)

By the time you read this - guess you will be back home again - so hope it went well for you....and if that friend has the sense to think that much of you - then its no surprise she does...kudos to anyone who goes to that much time/trouble/expense to go see a dying friend:T. She obviously chooses her friends well.0 -
In WW11, someone set up a Committee for Herbal Medicines or some such title which identified located collected and processed vast amounts of herbal material for home and force use. They were the originators of war-time rosehip syrup production.
What we also forget is that some foods are also useful; onion for sorethroats and colds, garlic, raspberry vinegar, honey, many spices. I would never be without elderberry syrup for coughs now.
Hmmmm...:D - could be a whole new "topic" on this to explore.
