Jelly - value stuff appears to have gone from everywhere, I have gone back to the sugar free sachets which were 38p for the two, so half the price of the block stuff. The teenage locust pinched the block stuff anyway.

Small boys mainly eat the surplus tomatoes here but if there are any left I oven roast them with a bit of oil and then whizz then before freezing.

    Happy birthday Redlady
    Congratulations Stiltwalker
Ceridwen I am going to have to crack and get a dehydrator, but probably not the Excalibar. I have dried apple rings a few times and the boys love them but I worry about the oven being on for so long. I am lucky and have three apple trees so plenty of 'free' material.

and hello to everyone else

So we are all, making, baking, pickling, dehydrating and planting. We re-use, waste nothing and have no spend days.... so how come we are still broke??? Im making tea from leftovers and a piece of fish my Mum got me, I havent been out of the house apart from getting bacon milk and eggs yesterday and am bored silly. :o

got the wedding favours already to go - my inspiration has been lacking the last few days for various reasons. Now have a pattern for the boxes after fighting with the pc for an hour and have done test stamping on one. Why has craft card become so expensive? is there a shortage or are suppliers (as I suspect) reaping the rewards of people doing it themselves? I want to get this wedding stuff out of the way by weekend so i can concentrate on the garden and making some nice framed prints for Dd's house - her partner owns all the art that hangs on the walls and will be taking it with him - lets face it thats all he owns!

Hello--i saw GQ mention that she is on diet. Can anyone answer me a really dumb question about food and dieting. i have dieted hard and long and reached my goal weight but i can easily put on weight because like everyone i eat naughty food(chocolate) and drink alcohol.--this is the question--if i eat or drink something that in reality weighes no more than a few ounces but has a high callory count does my weight increase by lots or just the weight of the food injested!!?? i told you it was dumb lol--the only thing that puzzles me is that things like alcohol and chocolate may affect the metabolism and 'suck' up the calories--i seem to go down slowly but zoom up by just having off limit stuff!

I guess it depends how much & how often you are having chocolate & alcohol..... and also what else you are eating generally. Do you eat lots of fried food, starchy high carbohydrates, puddings & biscuits & cakes, fatty things, or rich creamy dishes? All have the power to add pounds if eaten over & above a balanced amount.

Also, how you actually lost your weight can have an effect too - you may have cut down so much your body goes into "famine mode" and when you DO eat, regardless of what it may be, your body stores fat to keep for another "famine" period.

Stiltwalker congratulations on the birth of baby Joe :j, your turn next jediteacher, keep us posted.
Red lady enjoy the kenwood and the birthday weekend ;).

Oh can have chicken as part of his low residue diet so we are having a roast chicken dinner tonight, chicken risotto for him and chicken tomato and pasta for the rest of us tomorrow and chicken soup on thursday.

Will be stocking up on tomatos on pay day at the end of the month. Hope there are some left by then. Fortunately the tom plants in the greenhouse look healthy and there are plenty of them, so fingers crossed for a good harvest for the freezer.
I am playing all of the right notes just not necessarily in the right order :D.

Stiltwalker - so glad little Joe arrived safely.

    Jediteacher - all the best.

Littlecal - I always keep arnica at the ready to cope with bumps and bruises.

Cloudy and very overcast here but not a drop of rain.

Grey Queen. I grow celeriac and have found it pretty easy. I use is mainly in cream of celeriac soup and dauphinoise, neither of which are very good for a diet. :o

    Congratulations to Stiltwalker. :j
Sorry about you foot Smileyt. :(
Thinking of you and your friend SoftStuff.

Spent the day looking at cashflows and budgets for the business and home. :( I HATE uncertainty and just need to be prepared in case of non payments by clients.

Hoping the rain dries up tommorrow so I can get out foraging with the kids. Want some more wild garlic, nettles and elderflowers. I cleared space on the laundry room work surface yeaterday and hope to start off my wines at the weekend when I get the demijohns sterilised.

Don't know why but dehydrating stuff doesn't apeall to me. I much prefer pickling, jamming and freezing my surplus stocks. I do air dry chillies and wild mushrooms though.

Off to slump on the sofa for half an hour before hanging up the washing and cleaning the bathroom as we have guests tomorrow night. Hope it's warmer than tonight as we have had to light the fire. (the logs were free though :D)
