How many rooms, what rented value?
And do you really really think he will be able to get a council house? How many empty house and hopw many on the list?
I don't know about the benefits side of this but for council/social housing it all depends on the area they live.
If you applied for a one bedroomed flat where I live (you have to prove a local connection) you'll pretty much walk straight into one.
I have a question though to some of the replies here - some of you say that the the partner (alone) would only be entitled to a single room rate in a shared house.
I'd just like to ask then - if that home is a council home does the single room rate apply? It's just that a friend's brother recently got one of the new bulid flats here, it's one bedroomed, has it's own front door, living room, kitchen ect and because he only earns a small amount (under 18 so tiny minimum wage) he gets full rent paid. Will this change when the rules change?0 -
LHA applies to the private sector. This is what has been affeect. HB is paid to council and HA tenants and is not changing. If this lad is under 18 and has been housed, he must be a priority case anyway. If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0

He isn't a priority, well not yet he isn't as he was living at home with his mum and dad but they have gone on the housing list to eventually move into one of the bungalows they are building. The bungalows are 2 bedroomed so he could go with them but has chosen not too.
The area used to be fairly rough but things have changed for the better but it still means we have empty properties.0 -
as a single, non disabled man with no dependants, he would be very low priority on any council/HA list0

Have to say that the outcome you got from the calculator won't be right.I currently manage a Housing Benefit service and have been working in Housing / council tax benefit (as was) since 2001.

Yep, the HA are practically begging people to take them. Some had been empty for a while but the flats/houses/apartments have all been refurbished now. Obviously houses are a lot harder to come by but even they are not impossible and a move from a 2 to a 3 bedroomed house takes on average 6 to 12 months depending which ones of the HAs stock you wish to live in.
I would say where I am but I'd rather not as I would not like to be indentified.
Let's just say "Up North". LOL0 -

Definitely. On that wage, declaring everything honestly, there will be very little, if any, entitlement to HB or CTB and no entitlement to income based JSA.
Whether he would get a council flat or not is another matter. Slightly confused, if you are doing so well, why you have not looked into renting privately together and rebuilding your lives.0 -

Well, the location in your profile gives a clue.. lol. But yes, social housing waiting lists examples are always given with London/SE in mind. But many parts of the country have VERY short waiting lists and even difficult to let properties which they practically have to offer bribes on. It's just a shame that housing policy concentrates on the issues of the South East when making national policy changes.0
