Oh I like that pic of your scarf (oops a daisy I mean) - I might have to do fringes on the next one I do now!0

The pattern recommends 7.5 needles but I've read on here people using 4mm and 6mm. I have the fluffy/silky wool.
I remember those big needles becoming popular (in the 80s) and they were only ever sold on their own.
The pattern called for one big needle and one medium/smaller needle; Every third or fourth row used the big needle. It had the same effect as wrapping the wool round twice and dropping the excess on the next row...if that makes sense.
I recently made a scarf using this method (not fluffy wool but two, different colour, double knit yarns worked together) and it worked up really nice...and it was quick too which is great if you are a lazy knitter like me0 -
Forgot to mention, the big needle was a size 000 and the other one a 00 which, I think, are 10mm and 9mm in metric0

If you want it to knit quickly use big needles if you want it more densely knit use smaller ones.
With this fluffy wool it really does not matter, you cannot go wrong!
Enjoy

That's just what I was going to say!
I've made lots of these scarves in the last few months (for myself and for Christmas presents:D ) and I have knitted some on 4mm needles, some on 7mm needles. The larger the needle, the looser the tension of the scarf and the less wool you need to complete a scarf. But the scarves I have knitted on smaller needles have turned out nice and thick. It's personal choice, really. And it's addictive, isn't it?! :jMortgage Free as of 03/07/2017 :beer:0 -
on that scarf for the fringe I cut 28 lengths of wool at about 40cm, I put 2 lengths together for each fringe and then fold them in 2 to create a loop at the folded end ( this made 7 double fringes for each end of the scarf ). Then at the end of the scarf you put the folded end through a space in the knitting then pass the other ends through the loop ( I use a crochet hook but you can manage without ), just space them out evenly. I hope that makes sense - difficult to write down but very easy to do. I normally cut the fringes out first then I can just knit up all of the rest of the wool and then put the fringe on at the end. Its trial and error really - you can put more or less fringes onto the end of the scarf and you can play around with the length or even put a different colour on too. I am actually making up scarves to sell at a craft fair next week so I am onto my 10th in just over a week
but I have decided to put the one pictured onto ebay - you never know

I'm currently knitting a scarf with that 'eyelash' fancy wool....I'm using 8mm needles (size 0 I think) and bought 3 balls of the wool from Wilkos for £2.50. (or 99p a ball but it is on offer at the mo).
Very easy to use and very forgiving!
Someone bought me one of the pre-packed kits from M&S and it made a lovely scarf (the wool is thin in places and very fat, like it has been teased out, in others). Does anyone know where I could buy wool like this on it's own?? It is beautiful!0 -
I have done a lot of knitting on and off over the years.
in the last couple of years I have made a lot of scarves. using whatever needles happen to be around at the time, sometimes odd ones! you get a variation of texture doing that.0
