Cheers guys!
We loved the 'Spoons Game' my son-in-law didn't know what hit him :rotfl: . Enjoy your new year!0 -
Many thanks for the idea for the peg games - great fun, and amused all our Boxing Day guests who ranged from age 3 to 80. Pat0

You need two packs of cards, the dealer keeps one pack and the rest are dealt between however many are playing. You will need a fair number of objects as 'prizes' . In the past we have used things ranging from champagne and chocolates to a toilet roll and tin of beans. They dont need to be as expensive as the champers though. Alwasy best to have a couple of not too easily remembered ones too like packet of tissues. The dealer calls out the first card from his deck and whoever has the same card gets to pick one of the items which they then keep , discreetly so it cant be easily seen by other players. Then next person whose card is picked by the dealer can choose one of the remaining items or ask for one of the items already chosen from the person keeping it. They must name the correct item and the person who has it . Once all the prizes are 'with' a player the person whose card is drawn next MUST ask another player for their item, again it must be the correct item and person, so those with a good memory are at an advantage. If you get either worng thats your turn over. People get very sneaky when they have the item they really want and there is usually much gnashing of teeth when they have to give it to someone else .Sounds a bit complicated when I read it back but it couldnt be simpler. Whatever you are left with when the dealer runs out of cards you keep!!
Merry Christmas to all
Thanks to poster - played this on xmas day - I bought several pressies, small bottles of champagne, wine, choccies, toy cars/bikes as well as Bridget Jones knickers, nipple tassles, rubber gloves, feather duster, and at the start told everyone if what they won they either had to use or wear. Good fun as the kids would do anything but pick the knickers/nipple tassles out of the centre. Had a good fun watching the winner of the latter wear the knickers over his trousers and tried to twizzle the tassles in the same direction. Will play this again but will give myself more time another year to think a bit more about the wacky pressies in the centre...0 -

I use to 'spice' this up (?) for my niece and nephew by calling it 'Tick Tock' and running a timer (me) on the associations - the tick tocks started after a few seconds then got louder and louder as the poor bairn in question tried to think of a word!
No repetition, long pauses, rude words etc - and the timing of the 'tick tocks' can be speeded up/slowed down as necessary and any word/loud noise deemed necessary can be used to signify 'OUT'!!
Gets the little....tykes thinking on their feet! (They loved it, by the way!!!)
LMAO, that's a great twist, see how well people cope under pressure!! Loves itWith Love From The Mistress xx

This is a traditional game in our family when out and about. Basically you are looking for four things: A horse (1 point) a dog (1 point) a tractor (1 point) and a cat (6 points - harder to find) but when you see one you have to shout out Beaver first eg "Beaver dog". If you don't say Beaver or Beaver something not on the list you loose a point. The game can go on until the end of the journey or when the first person reaches a certain score. Simple but great fun! Up to you whether pictures on signs count, that has caused many an argument in our car!
Another for a car journey is spotting doubles / triples etc. on number plates but when you see one you tap (or we tend to tap getting rougher as the game goes on and eventually the game has to be stopped when the kids are causing injury to each other!!!) the other player that number of times. eg if a number plate has 444 on it you tap the other person 3 times and say "triple 4". You also use letters but both numbers and letters have to be consecutive on the number plate ie 434 is not a double 4.
Enjoy!0 -
2 Games I enjoyed when I was young and all the family can join.
1. Murder In the Dark :j
You need lots of people, at least 10 and plenty of space to hide, 3 bedrooms is fine, playing cards, I for each player which include the Ace of spades (murderer) and 2 jacks (detectives) Each person is given a card, mustn't show it, except the detectives who say who they are. They remain in the room. Switch all other house lights off and everyone goes to hide. The murderer 'kills' someone, who screams and falls on the floor. Lights go on and everyone troops back to the main room, leaving the 'body'. The detectives go loooking for the body and bring it back, where it lies untill the 'murderer' is found.
The detectives are allowed to ask each person 3 questions, and everyone BUT the murderer MUST be honest. :A
Questions such as where were? you and who did you see? what did you hear? usually are enough when you have plenty of people.
Of course the murderer can play tricks. One year my uncle killed himself. That was a tricky one. :rotfl:
Another year another uncle said he was having a bath!
The other one is early Pictionary.
For this my uncle did plenty of preparation.
He sat in one room with a list.
We were in another in teams, 4 teams is good.
We had pencil and paper and 1 from each team went into the other room to be told what to draw, the rest of the team had to guess, but quietly enough so the other teams didn't hear! :rotfl:
The winners had the satisfaction of winning, or the young memebers could hand round tea or coffee or drinks!Nat West CC,£2112.83 Nat West BankA/C £441.48 Egg Money £15?? Alliance & Leicester £546.92
August Grocery Challenge £200
I can resist everything except temptation so I'd better start learning ti resist0 -

You need a pack of playing cards - take out the same number of cards as you have people playing and these cards must include the ace of spades. The cards are then dealt out so every one has one - don't show anyone else your card. The person with the ace is the murderer - they then have to murder everyone else by winking at them. The other players may guess the identity of the murderer but if they're wrong they die. The aim is to kill everyone before you're found out.
We played this on Boxing Day at my Aunts house when there would be between 30-40 family members there about 30 years ago and it's one of my favourite memories. There were some spectacular death scenes:rotfl: and my grandad always used to cheat and wink at a few people when he wasn't it and then claim it was the light flickering on his specs!:D
We love playing this, we play it with the lights off and use one or two candles. When you are 'killed' by being winked at you lay down your card quietly without giving the murderer away. The way we play it is if someone suspects the murderer he says'I have an accusation to make, will anybody second me'' Someone has to then second him and if they are both wrong then they both die and are out of the game.0 -
"One Spot":
Any number of people above 4....don't have to sit in a circle but need to know the order in which they come (although this wouldn't be the case once everyone is very familiar with the game).....
......at its simplest, one name could be used but it is more fun and challenging if you pick a male/female combo e.g. Posh and Goldenballs, Charles and Camilla
......keep to one direction at first but then have changes of direction every so often, either timed or when someone makes a mistake.........
Mistakes are the best bit because the slightest error - incorrect greeting or name or just a hesitation - merits punishment in the form of dot on the face..(DON'T USE PERMANENT MARKER!!)....and, therefore, the change of name of the person who made the mistake from Charles or Camilla to "One Spot" ........and subsequently 2/3/4/5/6/7/8/9 Spot!!!
.........and as spots increase it becomes increasingly difficult to stay on top of everyone's correct name...so more spots all round!!
Person 1 says "Hi ........" (e.g if person 2 is female Hi Camilla, if male Hi Charles)
2 "What .......?"(e.g. if person 1 female What Camilla if male What Charles
1 "Ask ......." (if person 3 female Ask Camilla, if male Ask Charles)
2 "Hi ........" (Charles or Camilla depending if 3 male or female)
3 "What .....?" C or C but if they say Charles and 2 is in fact female person 3 now gets a spot and becomes 1 spot
2 "Ask ....." C or C depending if 4 male or female
3 "Hi ......." C or C depending if 4 male or feamle
4 "What......?" What ONE-SPOT
3 "Ask ......" Cor C
4 "Hi ......." C or C etc.etc.
5 "What .....?"
4 "Ask ......."
5 "Hi ........!
6 "What ...?"
5 "Ask......
I've not played it yet but was passed on to me by my cousin who says they have had great fun with it! It sounds complicated but if you read through a couple of times hopefully it will become clear.0
