There are two games you can play using pegs.

The first is a variation of the game mentioned earlier using a pencil or pen on a string. Instead of the pencil and string you have a peg. Instead of a wine bottle, you use a milk bottle (glass ones). Take a chair and place slightly in front of bottle on floor. The player has to take a peg and kneeling on chair aim to get it in the bottle without arm gong lower than top of chair back. Harder than you think!

Second game involves pegs too. Tie a string between two chairs and place pegs on (say 15 or so). The pegs by the way need to be those that you clip on. The aim of the game is to get as many pegs into your hand (one hand only!). Again not as easy as it sounds as it becomes more and more difficult to keep them in your hand and retrieve the pegs off the line.
  • My granny used to make sheets of cities names and we would split into teams to quess. The first team to win got a boxx of chocolates to share.

For example, liverpool would be a picture (she was quite good at drawing!) of a liver and a pool
  • Teach them Mornington Crescent. :p
"Peter Pan is 2. Shirley Bassey is 3. Dr Ian Paisley is 4. King Lear is 5. Why?"

"...also known as taking in the Spanish Cub Scout leader. (Cryptic) (5)"

Thanks to MSE, I've seen Citizen Kane, 2001: A Space Odyssey and Serenity for FREE! :D
  • :j Friends of ours showed us this game and its more fun than it sounds.
You need two packs of cards, the dealer keeps one pack and the rest are dealt between however many are playing. You will need a fair number of objects as 'prizes' . In the past we have used things ranging from champagne and chocolates to a toilet roll and tin of beans. They dont need to be as expensive as the champers though. Alwasy best to have a couple of not too easily remembered ones too like packet of tissues. The dealer calls out the first card from his deck and whoever has the same card gets to pick one of the items which they then keep , discreetly so it cant be easily seen by other players. Then next person whose card is picked by the dealer can choose one of the remaining items or ask for one of the items already chosen from the person keeping it. They must name the correct item and the person who has it . Once all the prizes are 'with' a player the person whose card is drawn next MUST ask another player for their item, again it must be the correct item and person, so those with a good memory are at an advantage. If you get either worng thats your turn over. People get very sneaky when they have the item they really want and there is usually much gnashing of teeth when they have to give it to someone else .Sounds a bit complicated when I read it back but it couldnt be simpler. Whatever you are left with when the dealer runs out of cards you keep!!

    Merry Christmas to all
  • How about the alphabet game. You choose a subject such as bands, football teams, songs, objects found in a kitchen, boys names (the list is endless) You then go through the alphabet naming something in the category beginning with each letter in turn. ie boys name would be Alan, Billy, Charles etc. You take turn about and if a person cannot think of one in the alloted time they are out of the game.
  • 1. The Story Game. Everyone has a sheet of paper, passes it round, and each person writes a different word at the top. When all words are in, each person takes a sheet at random and has to write a believable story using all the words (in any order). No winner, but the stories can be very funny, especially if spun around known characters and places.

    2. The Poetry Game. Similar, but this time it's verse. The papers are passed roun and a word written on one corner - the next person has to add under it a rhyming word, then fold the corner down. When the four corners are full, each person takes a sheet at random and has to write a verse using the rhymes given. Again, the verses can be incredibly funny if the writers use their imagination and use known characters and places.

    3. The Drawing Game can be played by all ages. Two teams in separate rooms and a question master at the top of the stairs, writing out a list of scenes, happenings etc to be drawn, again with as much personal local details as possible. As many subjects as there are members in one team. Individual team members are sent dashing up to be shown their subject (or have it whispered to them if they can't read, then have to dash back to their team to attempt to draw it without speaking, pointing or cheating in any way! Inevitably one team gets ahead of the other, and gets through all the subjects first.

Almost the best bit is comparing notes afterwards eg "How can that be Spot eating the turkey???? It's just one wiggly line and a dot!" etc etc.

    4. The Balloon Game. Everyone ties a balloon to one foot (or both) and dances round to music. When the music stops, they have to stamp on someone else's balloon while watching out fort heir own. The last one to retain a balloon wins. Admittedly, you have to buy balloons. Very noisy and rather rough.

We like the flour game. Light a match and immediately blow it out, cut off the burnt bit. Pour some flour on a plate and using a knife make it into a square cake shape. Stick the match in the middle with about half sticking out of the cake. Sit in a circle around the "flour cake" Take turns to cut a bit of "cake" away from the match. The match will eventually fall over, the person who causes the match to fall has to pick it up between their teeth, no hands allowed! To make it even more fun before picking the match up they have to wet their face with a wet flannel:rotfl:

  • We love to play a game called the spoon game.

This involves two people crouching down on all fours in the middle of the living room floor with spoons in their mouth. One of the players mustn't have ever played the game before. Standing over the two players you have a 'referee' who is hiding a spoon in their back pocket.

The players then take it in turn to hit each other on the head with the spoon that they are holding in their mouth (which is really hard to do). The twist is that when unsuspecting player 1 lowers their head to be hit, instead of it being player 2 that hits them, the 'referee' gets his spoon out of his back pocket and whacks them on the head (not too hard!) and then quickly hides the spoon again. The clueless player 1 cannot understand how player 2 is managing to hit them so hard and tries hopelessly to hit them back even harder! This then brings roars of laughter from the onlooking family and friends!

It is cruel but if you choose to pick on someone with a good sense of humour (and a hard head) they usually see the funny side.

    Happy whacking!

P.S. This is my first post - Hope it works!
  • We also love to play the winking game.

Arrange your chairs/sofas around the living room in a circle. Each of the men stand behind a chair and the ladies sit in front of them but you have to have one guy without a girl. The guy without a girl then discreetly winks at one of the other girls to come and sit on the chair in front of him. The other men need to watch like hawks and if they see their girl being 'pinched' they must try and grab her before she leaves his chair. If the 'winker' fails he then has to try and steal someone elses girl until he gets one. After a while you swap round and the men sit in the chairs while the girls do the winking (obviously, if you dont have the right numbers of men and women you may need to have some of the women join the men or vice versa). This game usually provides lots of giggles but probably not a good idea to play if you're wearing your best clobber as clothing can get torn!!

    Happy winking!
