trouble selling car
Hi im having bother trying to sell my car.
Its a Jeep Cherokee 2.5TD,1996. 90,000 miles.
Its in great condition and runs like a sweetie.
The only reason were selling is that im heavily pregnant and im struggling to get in and out it all the time.
im buying my mum and dads car and were due to recieve it this week so looking to get the jeep sold, so we dont have to carry on 2 insurances.
its on gumtree and ad trader, and ive reduced it in price from £1600 ONO(which i know was hopeful thinking!) to £1250 ONO.
Where do you think im going wrong?

A quick look at autotrader suggests your price is sensible.
Has there been any interest at all?0 -
ive had 2 scammers through gumtree and one guy who was looking to swap cars.
No other interest though0 -
I see you are in Scotland. Are you in one of the big cities or are you 'miles from anywhere'? That could easily put off people looking for what is a cheap car.
It's probably too old to sell for cash to a local trader but you could still ask.
Other than that perhaps the real price is £995?0 -
you could always try it on pistonheads, cars always sell well on there0
-
im in a town slap bang in the middle of Glasgow and Edinburgh, so 30min from each.
i think if we were offered 995 we would take it but no less.
Will try putting it on pistonheads
thanks0 -
I think you've hit the current fuel costs wall.
People are off larger engine sizes, and if someone wanted a workhorse, then they probably want a newer vehicle because it IS a workhorse they need, not something to run for a short time before it's clapped out. No offense, but it IS 15 years old.0 -
Put bluntly, nobody wants a big gas guzzling 4x4 anymore. They all want little 1 litre diesel noddy cars made of plastic and tin foil.
Then they will end up paying more when 4 years down the line they need to spend 3 grand on a new DPF and flywheel, but that doesn't help you, sorry.0 -
Thanks
If we dont sell it, then i think we will just sorn it off the road until the snow hits again at winter and we can laugh at all the other cars stuck as we drive by:p0 -
Or put it up for sale just as the snow is hitting. It will sell very quickly then! You could probably put the price up too!
FWIW I've laughed at plenty of 4x4 drivers in the winter just gone, who think that they'll be fine in the snow but forget that all cars have 4 wheel braking so they're no better off there. Unless, of course, yours has a more suitable tyre than a car.0 -
Im not sure? all i know is we passed plenty of 4x4s stuck throughout winter. our car had no bother at all in the snow.
im not going to sell it for a silly price, were not desperate for the money.0
