Water tank problem.

I have a problem with my water tank in the attic. it seems to be filling up with water and draining out of the overflow pipe, and this is the best bit, dripping into the boiler Flue and leaking back in to the bathroom. I have drained the tank and the ball !!!! seem to be working corectly and not leaking. The water coming in to the tank is hot!! and i have a feeling its coming from the boiler or hot water tank. Any ideas?

Either the system is pumping over as Cardew suggested.

Or there is a leak in the coil inside the hot water cylinder, so water from the heating header tank (usually the small one in the loft) is leaking from the coil into the hot water cylinder, so the hot water in the cylinder is being pushed up into the hot water header tank.

If this is the case then a new cylinder is required.

You could put some food colouring into the heating header tank and see if the water in the hot water header - or what comes out of the taps - turns cochineal red or tartrazine yellow.

And float valve is the new term for 'bawl cawk'.

Had a similar problem couple of years back and it was the pump in a/c set too high.
