Late Payment Removal

I've recently seen on various forums that it is possible to remove defaults from a credit file.
Now I'm wondering, is it possible to remove late payment? I have 3 consecutive late payments from November to January, all I want to do is explain my situation of being ill and not in work until a few weeks later, it was nearly 4 times what I was previously paying (British Gas incase you were wondering)
Yea, so what I'm looking for is a template that I can work on and send to them, I need the proper jargon though with the right acts or whatever stated.
also, does anyone know how long the process takes? and if I have someone with a different name on a linked address that I've never lived in, do I inform the creditors that put it there or the agency?
sorry for the long post I just tried to fit all in rather than make different topics.
thanks

If you paid late and the credit record correctly records this, then you can't get the record changed. Whether or not it was your fault, the reality is you were late. It is a risk indicator rather than a reflection on your character - some people would have paid out of savings, borrowed off friends, had insurance, or simply not been sick in the first place. You can ask for a comment to be put on your account - but whether a credit provider will take any notice is debatable.
Provided you have caught up, late payment markers do fade in significance over time.
If you are linked with someone that you have no association with, then it should be possible to get this removed. This happened to me - I complained to Experian who recorded it as being disputed whilst they checked with CapitalOne. It was sorted within about 3 weeks - CapitalOne said it was an error.0 -
Agree with above. A late payment is a late payment and cannot be removed. UNFORTUNATELY being off work and ill is not an acceptable excuse and there are ways to pay on time, be it yourself or asking someone else to do it for you, or making a payment online or via telephone. There are too many ways to pay and what you say is inexcusable. People can normally ask for a late payment charge removed from the bank IF it is a one off or their first time, BUT this is completely separate from your credit file.0

OK, but, how are people able to remove defaults yet late payments cannot be removed?
it was one incident that covered about 2 and a half months0 -

It is not possible to have any correct information removed from your credit file, be it a default or a late payment marker.
If people are successfully getting defaults removed, it is because they are disputing the default itself and winning the argument.0 -
PS don't believe the claims of companies that say they can "clean" your credit record. They can't do anything that you can't do yourself, will probably do less than what you can do yourself, and will certainly charge you for it!0

I know about those, wouldnt touch them with a mile long stick.
if it cant be changed its all good, I just thought there may be a chance if i go down the loyal customer route0 -

They're bound by the 'principles of reciprocity', ie if they want to find out if you've paid other providers late (by searching the CRAs) they HAVE to report the fact you've paid them late.0 -
Most people who have defaults or late payments removed are because the company cocked up in the first place and the person themselves are not to blame.
It can be a task even when a company does agree to get them removed for them to be removed!David
£1 of debt is too much for me!0 -
