Just a quick question before i call sky. At the mo i have sky tv(no movies or sports just 2 packages on top of the free channels), broadband and phone line etc, pay around £40/45 per month.
As we both hardly watch the sky channels im thinking of cancelling my tv subscription, because the channels we watch (bbc3, itv2 etc) are all available on a freeview box which i can buy and have no monthly subscription.
I want to keep the broadband and phone as its a good deal but do i risk loosing this deal if i cancel my tv with them. Any idea what freesat is? Also if i explain to Sky what i want to do will they give me an option without it costing much or even better nothing.
All we want is to record a few programmes on bbc3 etc and watch the free channels.
all ideas welcome, thanks.

Generally speaking, Freesat is roughly what you'll get on your Sky box without the subscription channels. There are a few channels you'll miss out on but, equally, many channels you'll gain.
However, without a Sky subscription (or a £10/month Sky+ subscription in place of your £20.50/month current subscription), the recording and playback facilities on your Sky+ box (if you have one) won't work.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
Cease subscribing to Sky TV and the viewing card willl revert to Freesat from Sky, you can see most of the channels you would be getting just by removing your viewing card.
The cost of the broadband and phone deal would increase by £2.50 /month, and if you have Sky + you would no longer be able to record or view programmes previously recorded. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
If you want to record you'll need to swap your Sky+ box for a Freesat PVR box such as the Humax Foxsat HDR.No free lunch, and no free laptop

thanks for the advice people, will have a think and lok at some freesat boxes. I would just cancel now but dont want to loose the recording and live pause facility. Not much for free anymore!0

Freesat and Freeview are entirely free for recording, you just have the one-off cost of the PVR, which will pay for itself within a year compared to a basic Sky sub.No free lunch, and no free laptop
