    Who to blame huh?

Going right to start of the problem, it seems to me it's our classic 1st sign of a problem, get rid of it..... or "oh damn the ashtrays full, I need a new car".

The above is entirely cultural though, the first time you get an issue with your car, your surrounded by friends and family telling you it's time to get a new one..... and the more inclined you are to listen to others without thinking about it clearly yourself, the more likely you are to fall into that trap.

Fact is you can NEVER save money by buying a new(er) car.

i would of took the astra on a much longer test drive.. if the salesman wanted the sale he would of let you have it for an hour or so i know when i go looking (just that mind looking) the dealers often say heres the keys have a "play"
then i would of driven it down the motorway to see if it was for me..
