With respect. SHE went to the dealers, and knee jerked into the deals.

Obviously the dealer will do his utmost to accommodate that.

Unfortunately you cant expect to chop and change cars in main dealers and not lose thousands

If its of any consolation - i've done even dimmer things in the past.

Cheers buddy. I think there is a certain amount of embarrassment on her part for allowing herself to be played so much and she has got herself worked up so much over it.

At least if she's got a car, she can visit me in prison after I've strangled an Evans Halshaw salesman.:rotfl:

    :D

Some salesmen are pretty bad for taking advantage of people who know no better TBH - I was speaking to a woman at work about my new car, she said she had visited the same dealer as I did at about the same time, spoke to the same salesman and could not get it for the same price.....

No deposit has been paid and no finance on the Insignia

Maybe best to cut loose then - but you'll be walking away having lost 3.2k on the Astra and even more given that her Golf would have been worth way more than what they gave part-ex. The salesman must love your wife - if you take the Insignia too then they'll have made an absolute killing from this deal!

They may even say they won't give you £11k for the Astra unless you take another car from them. You're not in a strong bargaining position to be honest.

Also, does she really want to go from a Golf to an Insignia? Really? Its quite a marked step down and won't be nearly as good to drive or as comfortable.

You're going to lose out whatever you decide - the least costly option would be to keep the Astra, so the wife needs to decide whether she'd rather drive a car she doesn't like or get stung for £3k+

Any way of trying to negotiate getting the Golf back!?

If the Astra is nearly new then sell it privately, you should get more than £11k for it unless they sold it to you for far too much

Good idea - I'd probably try this too. If I were the OP then my priority now would probably be to ensure the garage made no more money from the whole sorry episode.

There is no way I'd be taking another car from them so that they can sting me for another pay day. I'd either give the Astra back and take the £11k offered or sell the Astra privately.

Don't let the wife look at how much they're selling your old Golf for either because it will make her cry more!

I personally can't see why a Golf is OK for the motorway but the Astra isn't. They're the same sized !!!!in car. My mate has an Astra and has no problem doing over 25k a year tramping down to Hastings and back from East Yorks sometimes three times a week.

It is perfectly good for motorways.

    I assume she's been sold a 1.6 N/A petrol for stupid money.

That's the very one. And it pales in comparison to the Golf GT Tdi that has been traded in.

Sorry, but this is why it's only worth £11,000 now and not the £14,000 she paid http://www.arnoldclark.com/used-cars/vauxhall/astra/1.6-16v-sri-vvt/brand-new-11-plate/ref/blk_ziajkjyok6kduj1m/
