HMV: rip-off merchants

I do agree, some of their prices are an outrage. For example the other day I wanted to buy Weezer's first album, HMV were charging £15.99 but less that 2 hours later I managed to win a copy on ebay for £3.19 including delivery.
And also on the rare occasions when they have someone good appearing in their stores, the security guards can be quite rude and agressive. I remember when I was at one a while ago with a female friend and they asked to see a recipt for something she had just gotten signed. As she had only just purchased it before hand from Sainsburys (for £4 less) she showed the recipt. But when she done this the security guard threatened to take the cd from here and remove her from the store because it wasn't purchased thereTitch

im afraid i wish to disagree with you on a few points - my hmv in bradford have been good to me over the years - on a few occasions i have bought hubby a dvd/cd and then had to return it cos i got the wrong one - they have always refunded cash if i have paid cash and never been nasty at all - i do admit though, they can be a lot dearer and it does pay to shop around, but, their sales are good................0

I find HMV very useful when I want to have a browse through the merchandise. Then I go and order what I want from CD-WOW, play.com etc.
But as was mentioned earlier in this thread their sales can be quite good (CD box sets etc) and it's probably worth hanging on to your £20 voucher until the next one of those comes along!0 -
The HMV in Leeds is pretty dire. The thing is, they cannot say they do not offer refunds, as you can contact trading standards and they will be fined. At Christmas I was given a Kiss box set which I already owned. When I took it back I was given all sort of rubbish, I stood my ground though, and ended up exchanging it, they are trying it on though! I prefer online stores now

Actually as far as I'm aware, stores do not have to give a refund unless the product is faulty. If you just changed your mind it is up to the store to decide of they should refundTitch

you can still get a bargain though in hmv.
i get most of my dance vinyl from there (on the website) as it is ok pricing but more importantly have many hard to find records where searching high and lo cannot be found anywhere else.
Thing is if you find it that bad dont shop there...if everyone did that then maybe they will be forced to pull the prices downSmile and be happy, things can usually get worse!0 -

"No refunds"
If you see a notice/sign to this effect in a shop be aware that it does not affect your statutory rights and remedies as outlined above. A shop cannot legally exclude a consumer's right to a refund.
In fact, a shop will have committed a criminal offence and should be reported to Trading Standards Department of your local authority. Trading Standards may investigate and if appropriate, decide to prosecute the offending store.

If you read the whole of the article it is in fact referring to faulty goods. You are not entitled to a refund or exchange just because you have changed your mind/got 2 etc.

Gawd I feel really silly now LOL But I honestly belived that to be true
after reading that link I think I must have been really lucky on the odd occassion I've returned items which are not faulty :j 0 -
It's true that HMV full prices are very high but you can pick up incomparable bargains in their sales. Eg if you bought the 8 individual THUNDERBIRDS DVDs at full price you would pay £128 for the lot; in the current sale you pay £16. Beat that!0
