Making-money ideas under £1,000

Hi,

I'm a computer science graduate, I thought I put my degree to use and started designing websites, and have now moved more into the area of designing logos, but because I'm so cheap at the moment, I'm not making what I would like (thinking about a price hike).

I'm starting to think about what else I can do without investing a huge sum of money, it doesn't necessarily need to be related to computers.

So, currently I've done website design and logo design for small businesses, but managed to design a microsite for a university department too.

Other ideas:
    Domestic cleaning
    Ironing service
    Pet sitter / plant sitter
Language tutor / maths tutor etc
    ... your suggestion?

So how long has it taken you and how much has it cost the country to get your graduate status in computer science?

And now you are thinking of cleaning and ironing?

    Or pet sitting?

None of those things are going to make you any money so why not concentrate on what you have been educated to do?

Is this intended to be full time, if not what hours will you be available? How much income does it need to generate for you?

I hope you didn't design your own website! I can make similar logos to you using a software program that I have.

Yeah I understand what your saying, I don't want to completely pack in what I'm doing at the moment, but it's a bit quite at the moment and I just thought what else I could do. And I thought it might be a worthwhile thread getting some ideas going too.

It would probably be part time, but if its successful maybe I could get someone to man the station full time. I would be happy with £100+ a week, but even that would probably take some time reaching.

I did, I was going for the minimalist 'no fuss' look! I wanted my portfolio to load quickly, the website was more an alternative to sending a PDF attachment in an email. I've generally had good feedback from the logos so far.

If you were my mate and we were sitting in a pub, wondering what to do with you, I'd explain all about how great Wordpress is - and encourage you to install it and really dig around with how it's built, then offer your services to specifically build Wordpress sites for people quickly/easily. Then you can find a niche or three and write some really useful plugins, which could have a free version and a pro version.... and it'd spread the word that you are a Wordpress blokey.

Then .... I'd advise you contact local colleges and offer to put on Learn Wordpress 1-day workshops, also contact local training providers. Once you've done a few of those, contact companies directly and offer a personalised service of "I come to you, we install Wordpress together, I teach you the basics" - but give it a catchy name.

And .... after you'd bought me another half a cider, I'd actually sit down with a pen/paper and we'd draft out your marketing and business plan, direction and cover all the reasons why you'd do things in the way I write down.

Re my previous post ... this is the sort of thing I mean by the workshops, this bird charges about £80-90

Although hers is quite shockingly bad ..... I sometimes wonder how people have got the brass neck to say they do sites, I really do! Half hers doesn't work and the other half's very poor, which is why I didn't link to it.
