Flybe hand luggage?

My daughter has just had her case refused as hand luggage on a Flybe flight. This case has been accepted as hand luggage on numerous flights with me on several airlines - most recently, Ryanair.
She has been charged £40 to put the case in the hold. She is not very happy. The case was sold as 'hand luggage'. Do airlines have different tolerances re hand luggage?

Yes different for all budget airlines. Flybe give dimensions in their T&Cs
Many Flybe flights are those "Dash" aircraft, they have small overhead lockers.I am not a cat (But my friend is)0 -
Hand luggage dimensions :-
Flybe 50 x 35 x 23
Ryanair 55 x 40 x 20
I was surprised by that - didn't think anyone could be tighter than Ryanair!0 -

As Alan has said above, its to do with the size of the aircraft lockers, its a physical restriction that can't be changed. I've flown flybe myself and "got away" with a bag slightly larger than their dimensions (but not much), putting in the locker was fine but trying to get it out at the end of the flight was a scene! Thought I'd be coming away with some souveneir Dash 8 components!
To the OP, you have no comeback, you agree to flybe T&Cs when you book and the baggage policy is clearly displayed on the website.0 -

Oh yes, they can!
Thomas Cook:
43 cm x 28 cm x 23 cm
That really is a small bag.
We have used the same rucksacks as hand luggage for the last 15 years and they have been fine for every airline (both charter and scheduled) EXCEPT Thomas Cook.
So, it's necessary to check what the actual airline says on the website and make sure you are within their guidelines.
You MIGHT not get stopped but if you are - well, the OP's daughter knows what happens then.
She might not be 'very happy' but as bagand96 says, she has no comeback.0
