Expensive Catteries!

deanos, we have a good cheap cattery here in Lincolnshire but are going to France with cat for several months. On the way we are in Worthing for MIL birthday and a wedding so need to board the cat for just over a week.
Anyway thing DD may help us out and keep the cat in her flat.0 -
Just booked ours today, its £5 a night, it was £4.50 last year but as with everything its going up0

I used to know someone who owned a cattery - she could never leave the house, even for five minutes, unless there was someone else (named on the exorbitantly expensive insurance policy of course) there in case of an emergency. She also had to pay for training to ensure that she was able to administer any medications etc and recognised any symptoms of illness in the animals left with her. She was a real animal lover and opened the cattery because she wanted to offer top notch care for animals whilst their owners were away, but it was a real labour of love and the cost of running the business was astonishing, especially considering that when you took into account the long hours she worked, her profits paid her less than minimum wage.
OP - it may seem like a lot of money, but what level of care do you get for that? I would definitely recommend basing your decision on the feel of the place rather than price. For all that, when I had to board my two rabbits, I went with the cheapest option because it so happened that the lady was the nicest, asked most questions about what they liked, their routine, favourite toys and habits etc that I was much more confident in her abilities than some of the more expensive places - I would have paid her double!0 -
Puss from Africa
The only cattery I've seen that had double fencing and barbed wire on top of it.
(£5 a day, but she had to spend 6 months in quarantine there!)0 -
That's cheap! I pay £14 per day for mine.0

£14:eek:
And I thought the places near me were expensive.0 -
We pay £18/night to board our dog. He was in a couple of weeks ago for what we thought was a couple of nights while I was having our second child but things got very complicated and it turned into 10 days. Thankfully the kennels were very accomodating as we literally gave them no notice that we had to keep the dog in and we didn't know for how long. Worth every penny of the £18/night to know he was well looked after.0

I pay one of the receptionists at my local Vets £10 a day to come in twice daily to feed/water, etc my Moggy. She always stays for a while to keep him company.
He doesn't seem to mind !0 -
My parents just pay my train tickets home from uni and buy me some food and booze

Is that service available where you live, knightstyle? I expect it would be cheaper than a cattery.'The More I know about people the Better I like my Dog'
