Why are catteries so expensive??? Looking for one near Worthing and cheapest is £7.20 a day plus insurance! What a racket, they must be making a fortune.

Properly not much demand for them. The more niche the product, the higher the cost of it is usually.0

That doesn't sound very expensive to me. I've never put a cat in a cattery, but if you asked me to guess at a reasonable rate I would have said £10 a day.0

We pay £5 per day per cat at ours, but we supply the food. I think that's cheap. I'm more bothered that they look after my cats properly, the last time they were there it was really cold (mid december) and I know the cattery owners made a loss because of the heating costs that week.
Good catteries are like gold dust.0 -
Last time we used one nearly two years ago in Lincolnshire we paid £3.60 a day!!!
I just feel £7.20 is a lot especially as we may need it for several weeks or even a couple of months.0 -
The one we use is around £10 a day. There are cheaper around, but they look grim, and our cat always comes out stressed and upset.
The one we use now though, when the cat comes out she appears to be happier.0 -

Im in Lincolnshire, where abouts are you looking.
I think the one we use charges £4 a day and that's near Heckington0 -

OP
If you have a pet (presumably much-loved), what price would you put on it being happy and well cared-for whilst it is in strange surroundings without the people it knows?
I'm not sure of the relevance of your £3.60 per day comparision in Lincolnshire.
My cat goes to a cattery 3 or 4 times a year, for between 15 and 25 days at a time and has done (to the same one) since he was 5 months old (he's almost 11 now).
I won't book a holiday until I check that I can get him in.
Worth every penny to me.
I would shop around and visit any cattery you are thinking about using.
Do the people seem like they love cats or it is just a business to them?
Bear in mind the journey time, especially if your cat is not a good traveller.
Would you want to save 25p per day but have your cat stressed out after a 45 minute journey?0 -
I think mine would find it traumatic. I like the idea of people who come round to your house twice a day. Is that service available where you live, knightstyle? I expect it would be cheaper than a cattery."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0

I use rechargeable catsSquirrel! If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.
