skype on san francisco

my hubby is on the 3 network he used to have a skypephone from 3 but now he has the san francisco which has been unlocked, can he use the skype app from android market or does he need a one specific to 3 i've done a search and someone mentioned
googling this--- Skype_0.10.0.15_3UK_live.apk, i found it but dont know how to get it onto the phone for him

There is a little more to Skype on "3" than meets the eye.

As far as I know the Skypephone application makes a phone network call to a "gateway" number which is a free call for "3" users. This is what makes the Skyphone "non standard".

An "ordinary" Skype application won't do this but should work on the San Francisco on any network or via WiFi.

To put the application you mention on the Orange San Francisco you download it on the phone using a browser then click on the downloaded file. You will need to set the phone to accept "non marketplace" applications. I can give more detailed instructions if needed.

Personally I would download the Skype app from the marketplace and see how you get on with that.

"Skype for 3" is an app that uses 3's own network to send skype calls (only skype to skype) and does not use Wi-fi!!
"Skype for 3" hands off mobile/landline calls to your phones dialer.

The main "Skype" app works over Wi-Fi and Data and you can call or message landlines or other skype clients via wi-fi


Basically use the 3's app if you're out and about and calling other skype clients.
And use the main Skype app when you have wi-fi access.

If you don't download the 3 skype from planet 3, you will get charged for using another skype app.

Copy the file onto the phones SD card in Windows, then using a file manager on the phone (ASTRO is a good one) browse to where you put the file, and tap it to install.

My HTC Desire running CM7 (gingerbread) doesn't work with the Three supplied Skype. I live in hope that they will update it, or better still put it in the market so we benefit from automatic updates.
