Looking for cheap 'fake grass' to keep cats away?

Hiya we have a small patch of grass in the front garden that all the cats from down the street seem to use as a toilet. Its driving me mad, and I'm sick of cleaning it up.
I'm wondering if I could replace it with some fake grass which looks like grass but as it feels spiky to the cats it might keep them away.
I dont want to replace the grass with stones as the other neighbour has done this and it doesnt look as nice as grass.
The area we want to cover is approx 1.5 metres by 6 metres approx. Thanks

Thanks everyone, I am an animal lover so obviously wouldnt hurt the cats, just sick of cleaning up poop. I have a dog so they keep out of the back garden, but with the front being open plan, they wander in all the time. I will have a good look at all the links thank you x£100 - £10,0000

I have a dog and can't keep them out of the back garden despite shelling out for Lion Dung pellets !!!!!
It's not the pooping it's the smell of the peeing especially round the shed. Still looking for a solution. ( i meant CATS peeing by the way)0 -
There is a plant called Scardy Cat that you could try planting around the area. Smells ok to humans but cats hate it. Another method of trying to keep them away is to spray water at them. We used this with a bothersome wood pidgeon who poops all over our patio from the tv aerial, eventually he got the message.
I agree about the stones, not only does it not look as nice but it acts as a giant litter tray.
Or failing that, you could get a cat or find a way to keep the dog in the front every now and again so that they get fed up and don't bother.
I thought the Lion Dung pellets might have worked - I'm disappointed with the post above saying they don't.The Cabbage

I used to have problems with cat poo in the garden - the only solution I found to be effective was this:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Toolbank-STV610-Defenders-Mega-Sonic-Repeller/dp/B000NR8Q1U/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1301846994&sr=8-1
Just make your you power it from the mains as it eats the batteries pretty fast.0
