Driving with no valid MOT cert- 1 week overdue

Hi, i was advised on another board to come in and ask... if my MOT is out of date am i still covered under my insurance?

I was under the impression that i wasnt covered but ones on the other board say that isnt the case?

Many thanks

you are covered without MOT, but if the vehicle is not roadworthy and that causes or contributes to an accident you could well find yourself not getting paid (and maybe even having to repay your insurance company for costs they have to pay to a third party)

Why not ask your insurance provider?

Anyway, why are you driving a car without a valid MOT?
    :hello:
  • I have it booked for next Thurs. couldnt get an earlier date (left it 2 weeks before my MOT was due and was all booked up)
Managed to hit a skip outside my house on Thurs bringing it home from the mechanics so was servicing it :(

I find it difficult to understand that you couldnt find an MOT slot within two weeks. How many garages did you try?

I doubt the skip owner will be after damages, unless your ride is a Sherman tank. :D

If a valid MOT certificate were a requirement the insurers would want sight/proof, surely?

I drove my car to my auto engineer on Thursday (1 day out of test) with whom I had booked a service and MOT. Presume I would have been ok then?

But then, a driving licence is also a requirement, but I have never been asked to produce one as a matter of course.

true enough - although I am always asked how long I have held a full driving licence for when I get insurance quotes...

and I boast because mine's paper...

Sorry i should have said that I live in Northern Ireland. We cant bring our cars to garages, we have to go to MOT centres (3 centres within a 60 mile radius) and there is a backlog at the minute that i didnt know the had.

I also now realise that our law may be different to yours regarding MOT's then.

    Sorry for troubling you.

No don't be sorry. It's your car and you're free to drive it without MOT as you please.

Check your insurance documents as it may state what their policy is on the issue.
