Tmobile internet usage question

Quick question:

I've found a tarrif on Tmobile that says

600 Mins Any
Network Anytime + 500 Texts
+ Unlimited web browsing

What does web browsing cover and what would be extra? If I download apps would I be charged for downloading them? What other things would I be charged for?

Trying to sort my first contract phone out for a number of years and I'm scared I'll make a mistake and end up with a huge bill! I'd be grateful for any advice

Sounds the same as my contract. It says unlimited, but for me I've got a fair usage cap at 3GB a month...more than enough!

Only way you'll pay for apps is if they say you need to pay, if its a free app, then its free.

I think you can download apps etc. so long as you're within your 500MB a month, and after that you cannot until the next month (however they will still allow basic browsing without charge when you are over the 500MB). That is my understanding anyway (I have the same contract as you).

T-Mobile changed their terms didnt they early this year ..3GB for browsing, downloading, streaming audio/video then after 3GB browsing only & other usage may well be slowed down

So does that mean that I just wouldn't be able to download anything else ifI reached the limit rather that carry on downloading stuff and get a huge bill? And how much stuff is 500mb in terms of how many songs, how many minutes of video etc.

That is how I understand it, yes. It used to be 3GB but they reduced it to 500MB for new customers, but I wasn't too worried as I only use it for basic browsing and I understand I can do that even over 500MB.

You can view or download Apps, Music etc you pay for the price of the song app. etc

Unlimited means 500Mb, which for most user is enough if you also have wifi accesss, if not you're more likely to go over your limit. But unlike most network T-Mobile don't charge you extra but will reduce your spend / stop you from being able to download, I think you have some access so can view web sites. This is a good thing since you aren't going to be hit with a big bill, unlike Tesco who again has Unlimited Web (500Mb) and they change £4 per Mb when you go over, which mean a 4Mb song will cost you £16 if you've gone over your limit.

I had an iPhone for 12 months on O2 and in the whole year I used less than 1GB, so 500Mb a month is fine, but I used wifi when ever possible, at home, friend homes etc since it's quicker. So my mobile data was only used for quick checks of the net, emails or the very odd song/app.

I'm with T-Mobile but I've got the old 3GB a month, which the amount I use would last me a couple of years....

Some apps use a normal internet connection, so they will work just like your browsing and email allowance. But there are some apps that use streaming connections, so these will fall into the 500MB allowance.




Therefore once your 500Mb have been used you can still surf the web, but can't watch video (iPlayer, You Tube) or download music/Apps.

I too am on TMo & this really interests me.

Is it not more likley that rather than the services you access being limited when you hit 500mb, that you'll just at that point start being charged extra for out of package data?

Personally I would love it if you could use 500mb for the data-hungry stuff, and then once you've used the allowance, it automatically cuts back to basic browsing only (ideal).

However I thought you would need to use a specific program running on the phone & monitoring data usage for that kind of thing, no?
Any info would be ideal please mate.

This may be really obvious, but it is data use overseas that will get you a massive bill.

If your phone has the ability to do so, add a data measuring application (or use the one built in) so you can see how your use is going. You will get the feel for what you do that uses data.

Personally I don't like contract phones due to the lack of cost control but for some people they are the best approach.

This is also how I see it, but I'm now spending £30 a month on my PAYG phone so thought for the same amount I could get a better phone on contract. Still toying with the idea of trying a 3 chip to see what their signal is like here (see my other post) before getting a phone on their network if all is well, their price plans are v competetive and include all you can eat data.
