Tesco £6 Sim

Last year I got a £6 SIM for my daughter from Tesco. Had no complaints so far.

Got the most recent bill and I have been charged £6.13. When I queried it I was told it was due to the VAT increase.

Surely though if you buy it as a £6 SIM it should stay at that...or did I miss something in the small print?

My son is on a £10 a month tariff and they have put that up to £10.21

I think they adjust prices with VAT rates.

    Every little helps.

Must be VAT increase then but why no notification? And can they actually raise it when it is sold as a certain amount?

Yeah they should have told us about the increase.

I've noticed this VAT increase on a £10pm contract (to £10.21) yet I have two other SIMs on £15pm where it did not change ... all three are with the same company.

Thanks. Looks like the wrote to people on contracts but not those on 30 day ones.

    Now that's interesting. Wonder why?

The £10 or £6 sim tariff was including VAT, which at the time was 17.5%; VAT increased to 20%, therefore you charge has also increase.

I was on a T-Mobile tariff of £7.50, it's now £7.66. It will be the same for everyone (except maybe PAYG user, since £10 top-up is still a £10 top-up, unless the call charges have increase by the VAT amount).

There's a principle here in that when you are offered something at a price and accept it, you expect to pay that amount for the length of the contract. It could be argued that the supplier should take any VAT increases. If a company makes cost savings you don't receive a lower bill!
