550 Relay?

Options
Hi Everyone :)
I've got a problem with OE. Whenever I try to send a message, it comes back undelivered with 'relay 550 not permitted'. Can anyone tell me please what this means and how to cure it? many thanks

It's your ISP denying your email. Maybe you need username and password, who is your ISP?

Are you using another ISP's e-mail address or does this happen with your Bulldog e-mail account?

So does this happen when you use an e-mail account like Yahoo?

    Hi

It sounds like a server problem of some description. Like your ISP doesn't like the place where your mail is coming from. You may need to check your outgoing mail server settings.

    Open Outlook Express
On the toolbar at the top, go to tools
    Accounts
Highlight the email account you are sending mail from by clicking on it once
    Click Properties
    A new window will open
Click the Servers tab at the top
Have a look where the Outgoing mail is (SMTP). The text in the box should read

    smtp.bulldogdsl.com

    Hope that helps.

  • Following on from hybrid's post, on that same screen tick 'My server requires authentication'. Then click Settings and select 'Use same settings as my incoming mail server' and click OK all the way out.

However Bulldog do not instruct you to do this and also they say that the SMTP should be mail.bulldoghome.com See here.

Still not clear exactly what the problem is as she says that it works with Bulldog mail in post #5.

    Hi Guys :)
Well, Microsoft Outlook now works having changed it to smtp.bulldogdsl.com.
    (POP3) says: mail.bulldoghome.com.
I'd have thought they were the same? But tested connections & received 3 test messages ok. Plus your messages turned up too - Happy Tiff!
On OE6, The first thing that comes up is, do I want to make OE6 the default? I click no & inbox stays empty.
Thank you guys for your help & your valuable time; if you have any further advice it's greatly appreciated.
    Much Love
