Nationwide Non-UK commission and cash withdrawal fees

I withdrew 200 euros from my Nationwide Flexaccount in Portugal last week. I got a good rate (1.136) but I note on my statement they have charged me a £3.52 non-UK commission fee and a £1.00 cash withdrawal fee. Is Nationwide therefore the cheapest option for getting cash therefore? I used their credit card where I could and got the 1.136 with no fees.

Nationwide ceased to be the cheapest way to get cash abroad some time ago.
Have a look here, under the "debit card" section for direct alternatives: http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/travel/cheap-travel-moneyLet's settle this like gentlemen: armed with heavy sticks
On a rotating plate, with spikes like Flash Gordon
And you're Peter Duncan; I gave you fair warning0 -

Thanks for this. I only go abroad a couple of times a year so don't want to go to the hassle of getting another bank account, but I do have a FairFX card and I note they only charge 1.50 Euros to withdraw so it looks like it will be cheaper to use that rather than the Nationwide card in future.0 -

That depends on what exchange rate they use to supply your euros so you need to factor that in as well. FairFX is still probably better but not by a lot0 -
Best value PrePaid Mastercard for travel is the Travelex Cash Passport Globe.0
