£97 to cancel Vodafone contract 2 pay as u talk, what can I do?

Hi guys im just wondering if anyone here has any advice for me. Basically I've been on a contract with vodafone as part of a 12 month deal for the past 6 months now and have been finding it a bit more expensive than I expected and I really wanted to go onto pay as you talk to save money.

Trouble is, today when I rang Voda I was told that i'd be liable for a £97 'cancellation fee'. I was amazed this was so much!

Just wondering if you guys know of any way around this or advice?

Cheers
Rob

    Which tariff are you on?

Is there an option to switch to a tariff with a lower montly charge for the remainder of the contract?
  • Well most contracts are for 12 months. Because you want to break your contract, they are fully entitled to charge you for this.

Can't you just change tariffs instead? What tariff are you on at the moment?

£97 sounds a bit like six and a half months at £15, so you might as well go for the cheaper tariff.

I bet the contract didn't seem so expensive when you were staring at your shiny new phone 6 months ago. I'd guess the £15 a month will be close to the minimum they offer anyway, at best you could pay the £97 and sell the phone you got with the contract to cover that. Anything left over you could put towards a PAYG phone like the 3510i for £10/20 that was at the Orange shop

It actually wasnt very expensive for me 6 months ago before I was renting my own flat, but at the moment im looking to vut down on un-necessary expences -my mobile being one of them.

Im currently on the cheapest tarrif they do but thought i'd just find out if I could get out of it or not. Not that important really, I wonder, do you think they'll let me cancel itemised billing?
  • Is it the £15 online tariff?
