Cost of running a second sky dish cable

Good evening,
I have just bought one of the Humax FoxSat Free Sat 500gb recorder boxes what with all of this digital switch over worry. It works out cheaper for me than subscribing, although you don't get all of the Sky channels, you get more than enough.

My house has a sky dish with a quad lmb but I only have one cable running down into my house.

Does any one have a rough idea as to how much it would cost me to get someone in to run a second cable through to my new foxsat box?
I wouldn't expect the cable to be no longer than 15-20 metres.
And I would do it myself, but don't seem to have a powerful enough maisonary drill, or the bits, would rather have a pro sort it.

The box works fine at the moment, but to make use of the full features, I would need two sky dish cables.

Any ideas on cost would be really helpful. If it is too high, I might be better off buying a new drill and doing it myself! :money:

You sound quite posh, so the fitter would probably pick up on that and rip you off.

    20 metres of cable, at 50p/m = £10.

    cable clips £1

    call out fee £5

    half an hour's labour £5.

    £20 for cash.

half an hours labour for £5
more like £20 call out and £30 for labour.
Buy a good drill n bits, DIY and keep the drill for future use, still cheaper and more satisfying

50p/m for cheap cable that will cause you problems down the line...

    You need a WF-100 Coax;

You also need cable clips,as said,'F' connectors & silicone sealant for the hole, unless you want a damp wall in a few months time. Are you sure it's a Quad LNB? Reason I ask is it's unusual to find one fitted for one cable.
If you decide to DIY,where you drill out from the room (never drill into the house!) drill at a downward angle &,when you bring the cable in,leave a drip loop blow the hole to allow the water to run off. Then seal with the silicone.

To do a job of your size, which includes 12 month warranty,I myself would charge £60.That's the base rate all my TV work starts at for this type of job which includes parts & labour.

Replace with shotgun cable and you might be able to use the existing hole?
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

I had someone to replace a single LNB with a quad LNB, bring an additional feed to my Humax, also feeds to bedroom and Kitchen. Cost £120.

DIY if you can safely get to the dish....shotgun cable (figure 8 cable ) saves any bother..., add other bits already mentioned (f connectors etc) plenty of good info on the net already...

you'll be quids in...regardless of what some people have quoted on here....it's not rocket science, dish is already alligned, lnb already there, follow existing cable route....simple....you'll feel good after you do it as well....and financially better off..

alternately....spike7451 is giving you the best info (expert wise) and his pricing isn't too bad either....
No two ways about this one: Anything Free is not a Basic Right..it had to be earned...by someone, somewhere

Lol that made me laugh! Posh :D
I don't think I am, do posh people use mse?! Anyway thanks for your post.
I was thinking of calling some local companies who fit sky and tv aerial, but I think that they will probably be pretty busy at the moment with all of the digital switch over publicity we have in our local area.

ahh, thanks for this, I wondered what the cable did. The hint is in the name, I didn't pick up on that.

That is not a bad idea at all.
That would save on having to drill a fresh hole.
    Will look into this.
My only worry is if I !!!! it up, I would not have my original wire to rely on. Thanks for your post.
