We've got one, and touch wood it's working well. DD1 is 6 weeks now, and I have the nest beside the bed. I was co-sleeping at first, as I have done with my others, but decided I really had to stop that becoming the norm as she was waking for a feed/to use me as a dummy every hour or so.

So she's been in her nest now overnights for a couple of weeks, and is sleeping 10-5 or thereabouts. TBH I tend to put her in it asleep....I've not had too much luck getting her to go off in there (or anywhere else but my arms). During the night you do hear her fidgeting a bit, and you see the nest rocking, so I guess that's doing its job.

My only problem is sometimes I feel she's not positioned right, and it seems like her head is lower than the rest of her body. I'm going to put a spirit level in there one day to find out if its true - or if it just looks that way.

FYI I bought mine off ebay for £77. and then bought an extra sling off ebay for £10

I had one for my youngest son and it was fantastic, despite him being a very difficult baby with reflux he slept really well in this.

Do you just use crib sheets in them- I mean as they are quite enclosed do they get quite warm?

I've talked DH into getting one if baby is early (probably will be) :j Will just be setting money aside (and anyone wanting to get gifts will be told they can add to the fund). Well actually it's a whole complicated mess this pregnancy and so he is really just letting me get what I want!

They sell fitted sheets for the matress as I recall (although they also do that for moses baskets and a plain pillow case fits just as well). As for bedding, during the summer I'd think a flat sheet or cellular blanket would be enough.

One of the reasons I love my hubby is he just smiles and nods in the right places :D I'm sold on this hammock lark though, just got to find a good 2nd hand one on eBay.

Sleeping bags all the way. One of the greatest inventions known to man. None of this messing around with blankets - just zip 'em in and they're warm, snuggled, and you don't have to worry about suffocation.
  • Hiya - just thought I would come back and update you on our progress with Benjamin in his hammock....

    ...we love it :T:T:T

I put him down awake and just sit on the floor (so he can't see me but knows I am there) and gently bounce him and within minutes he drops off. Usually with a few murmurs but generally if he is crying lots it is because he has wind that he needs to rid himself of before going to sleep :D

The one I bought was this one - we then contacted the seller and bought a second stand from them for the bedroom. But at £59.99 you can buy two whole hammocks for less than the price of the amby.

The stand I got (both of them) is not the same as the one in this pic though...ours is more stylish I think...a bit like this:

In conclusion - Benjamin was a big baby at 8lb 14oz but I think he was just to small and weak when he was newborn to go in the hammock. It was about 4 or 5 weeks before he seemed strong enough to go in there (he simply couldn't move his head in there before). I guess it depends on your baby but Benjamin likes to be able to fidget in his sleep!!

Now I would thoroughly recommend it!

My DD was 9lb 4 born and went in hers from about 4 weeks because she had outgrown the moses basket and we didn't have room for a cot. We even used it as a travel cot when we went away. It was fantastic and she stayed in it until she was 9 months even though she could sit unaided at 4 months. At 9 months she started to turn onto her front in it so we moved her to a traditional cotbed and it took a couple of days for her to learn to settle in it. My very sceptical OH admits it was one of our best buys especially as I got a really good price for it on Ebay when I later sold it.
