Anyone tried an 'Amby Nature's Nest' Baby Hammock?

Hi all,

We are expecting baby no.2 in the new year and i have heard alot about these 'Amby Nature's Nest' baby hammocks.

Just wondered if anyone had used one and if they are worth it???

Apparently they are meant to mimic the support of the womb and enable baby to sleep better. Have had a look on ebay and they seem very rare and sort after. They cost £145 to buy new.

Sorry to revive an old thread but my question is exactly the same- now they are a couple of years old has anyone got any experiences with the 'Nature Nest'?
Are they used as a cot alternative for night times or just during the day? Are they as good as all the websites say they are?

    Ta muchly

I'm biased as Amby donated a natures nest for a raffle I helped organise...

However, Seeing it in action it looks great! If I had space, I'd get one (I'm still checking for cheapy second hand ones though). A few people I know have had one, one for a very prem baby (28weeker) and one for a reflux problem, in both cases the hammock helped mum and dad get sleep as it did soothe baby.

I think it's personal choice as to whether you use it as a crib (for the first few months) or continued using it (upto a year is it?). After that you can buy the swing thing for it, though I have never seen that. The frame is sturdy enough so no worries there.

Thanks Tiamai-d, I'vc not actually seen one in action

Next question- Do you think that by using one of these for the first, say 6 months, I'd be building a rod for my own back. I mean if this helps the babe to sleep by the rocking/ mimicking the womb, will it then settle in a cot that doesn't move when it's a little older?

Well, I had a look and you can use it safely untill baby starts sitting up. Can't remember when that 'should be' as DS2 was very very late.

I don't really see you making a rod the same as rocking baby to sleep would be. I'd probably introduce the cot for daytime naps at first (this would usually be when they like to lie and stare around for a little while after they wake up), and move on to the cot when it seemed like a good idea, probably when they do start taking more of an interest in whats going on round about them. They usually like to have a good old kick about goo and ga a bit, mess up their blankets and make baby screams of delight, I'd guess this would be the right time as they can then see out the cot (nosy little so and so's too!) It's the same as a rocking crib I guess.
  • We have one, bought off ebay for half the price - brand new but not an 'amby' - I can't tell the difference. We bought 2 stands, one for our bedroom and one for downstairs.

Benjamin is 18 days old, some days he loves it, some days he hates it.

I will type some more and will pm you details of ebay seller but feeding Benjamin and myself at mo!!

    MFD, we need linkys!

Awwww, Benjamin, hows he getting on?
  • Hi tia!

    Benjamin is adorable!

We are not using his hammock at night at the moment because he still can't make his mind up whether he likes it or not...he likes to sleep on his side (I know I am a bad mummy, he has a bolster to make sure he doesn't roll over onto his front) - he obviously needs to be on his back in the hammock.

Sometimes Benjamin loves his hammock, other times he screams as soon as I put him down...depends on how windy and sleepy he is. He loves space though and is happiest when he is in the middle of our king sized bed on his own!

He is still only tiny though, he may like it more once he is a little bigger. If he does I will use it day and night - its simply not worth the risk at night at the moment.

    The jury is still out.

Can't find the link for the ebay guy at the moment...will find it tomorrow and post.

My sister bought one off ebay for my nephew. They used it till he was about 6mths old. I definetly want one when we are blessed. I think its fab. Especially if you use it in your own bedroom before transfering baby to its own room ( if space is limited). I know I will be investing in one. Easy to travel and fits in anywhere and nice and easy, indoors and outdoors.

MFD &SkipE Thank you! I'm going to give one a go I think- they do seem to hold their price on eBay so even if it's not for me I won't lose too much money on it.
