Holiday for 17yr olds

When we booked to go on holiday last year, I had to be the lead passenger as I was 18. Everyone else's parents had to sign a waiver saying they were okay to fly etc and that I was responsible for everyone who was under 18 at the point of travel (2 out of 6). We were all given an adult AI wristband, and never thought anything of it!0

My son and his girlfriend went to ibiza last year and both were 17 so I know for sure, they flew with thomsonfly.0

Our year 12s have to stay on this year until the end of term as they go straight into their A2s.0

Sorry i was presuming the poster was talking about a package holiday, i never thought about separate components. In our shop which is Thomas Cook we don't allow under 18's to be lead passengers.0 -
Thanks everyone for your replies.
They were going to book flights and hotel separately, so should this be ok??0 -
They slapped an adult wristband on my 16 year old in Egypt. If you're going to stalk me, while you're at it can you cut the grass, feed the dog & make sure I've got bread & milk in

My son has been given child's wristband on our family holidays for the past 2 years but has managed to acquire an adult one within a few days. He'll be 18 this year so hopefully the novelty to get served alcohol will have worn off. Well i can live in hope!
He also went on holidays with his mates last year when he was 17. Some of the party were 18. The hotel they originally booked into changed their policy before they arrived and wouldn't take under 18's so they had to be put in a different hotel where they were not made welcome.0 -

Each airline has different rules, it depends at what age they are classed as minors, a lot of hotels won't accept under 18s on there own so they need to check that out as well. How savvy are your 17 years old are they streetwise, will they be able to cope if something happens, ie ash cloud type occurrence, low cost carrier cancelling their flight home etc. They would be better on a package holiday at that age, have they not got some more friends who could go with them as well.0
