You wouldn't claim on insurance for car park dings etc because the increase in premium would hurt you.
I've heard of that SMART Protect product but the main reason I'd swerve it is because it's provided by Auto Protect who are scumbags that provide warranty products that are not worth the paper they are written on and are excellent at wriggling out of claims.
I am wrong in thinkng if I have fully comp insurance, guaranteed/protected no claims then it wouldn't effect my insurance premium? That's kinda what I thought it was worth taking out the no claims protection? Never had to use insurance for anything so don't really know?0 -
It'd still affect your premium, probably by more than the repairs would cost.
Smart repairs aren't that expensive. Plus - just park your car as far away from the shop door / etc as possible- don't park next to brat carriers like Xsara Picassos and the like either.

Buying any paint protection from a dealer is poor value for money. The price of say £299 will cost the dealership £20-30 for the product, they pay the valeter minimum wage to apply it, the dealership gets a cut, the dealer principal gets commission, the salesman gets commission, etc etc.
Go onto eBay and search for: Jewelultra Diamondbrite, Autoglym Lifeshine, and Supagard to see how much the materials cost.
Sorry to be a pain, just had a look at the products you've mentioned, but being a simpleton I have no idea what's best. Any recommendations?0 -

K, So.. would only be worth claiming on a mega ding/bumpty bump? Tis all good. I should stop worrying so much me thinks.. just very excited about having a shiny new car!!0 -
A Kia Rio will plummet in value. Personally, I wouldn't have any of it except the service plan if reasonably priced.Je suis sabot...0

Debatable with the 7 year warranty etc - residual values are stronger than they used to be.
Plus surely if it plummets in value then GAP is a good idea?(not from the dealer though)

Check your insurance policy - with some, if you have owned the car from brand new and it is written off within the first year, they will replace it with a new one. So no need for GAP insurance for that year.
But now only if the exact same model is still available..
So any car that changes trim level, special editions, you only get the market value.0 -

You're falling into the trap of how depreciation is quoted by car magazines. They are fixated by percentages based on the recommended retail selling price. A BMW may have better residuals but the outlay is far greater
A Japanese hatch may cost £12k and be worth £6k after 3 years, a Kia Rio may be worth £4k after 3 years - both 50% drops. But who has lost the most seeing as the Kia is £8k new?The man without a signature.0 -

Thank you for supporting my point. All of these dealer profit makers will not add anything when it comes to sell.Je suis sabot...0
