Hi Lula
Absolutely agree re. stuff... parents are having to deal with Gran's house at the moment as she's moving into a home and it's FULL of things she doesn't even know are there, never mind find beautiful or useful. This has given me a slightly bizarre ambition that when anybody has to move me into such a place I will be able to leave with a rucksack, a Kindle and a yoga mat :rotfl:
I love the boat dream :j do keep posting about it... am seriously considering looking at a boat here since house prices are outrageous, and a mortgage is a nightmare if you need to move, whereas boats can go with you...
Cornwall sounds fantastic do tell about Eden

Rosa I love this. I can move with just my frocks, heels and a bit of lippie if need be. The rest is just stuff. Granted I'll need a van this time as I have a telly and a bookcase and what not but STUFF is just not for me.'The road to a friends house is never long'0 -
Welcome back Shoe Gal :j
girls - I am seriously declutttering my life now & wholeheartedly agree with living lightly. Due to living in an unfurnished rented place & having had 2 DDs I have accumulated a fair amount of equipment over the years but if I had to pack up quickly, I'd happily leave most of it behind as so much was given as housewarming gifts.
I would definitely keep my saucepans cos they're perfect sizes & my pink silicon bakeware & my 2 charity shop Cath Kidston plates & the 2 charity shop cups & saucers as they're really pretty & 'individual' but the rest of it is just basic homewares & easily replaceable.
I dont have that many books as I tend to use the library & charity shops for general reading & then pass them on & I could certainly cull even further.
I'm still weeding out the wardrobe & this afternoon I ejected another pair of trousers, 2 dresses, 2 skirts & 2 tops. I'm trying to live by Rosa s cree of only buying what I absolutely love. It makes far more sense to have fewer items that I love & wear to death, rather than having a different outfit for every day of the month.
Rosa - I'm not looking for a live aboard (at the moment) but there are some absolutely beautiful ones out there, for a lot less than a flat or house. I like that having a boat still means getting outdoor space & veggies could easily be grownin containers which would certainly suit my neat freak tendencies.
We only have 25 mini leeks left, the carrots & parsnips seem to have disappeared, but the netting has kept the cats off.
I'm off to sluice my throat with the last bottle of yummy rose & watch my latest lovefilm dvd - The Tourist; not had great reviews, but should be aesthetically pleasing0 -
To add to the boat conversation, my parents bought a share in a canal boat a few years ago and so have 3-4 weeks a year. I spent a week with them on the boat in 2009 and am going in a few weeks.
Last time was the most relaxing holiday I've been on. Amazing countryside, gorgeous views - very chilled out. And some nice breaks for a cup of tea and cake.
When we'd moored up for the evening we used to stick radio 3 on for the proms and open up our box of red wine and we were really lucky as the weather was ace (cue much amusement in the office when I was congratulated on my fab tan and they learnt I'd spent a week in the West Midlands.......) so we could sit outside and enjoy it.
I can't wait to go again - I also love all the foldaway brilliance of them as well.
Lula - will be interested to see what you think of The Tourist. I saw it at the cinema and was sadly disappointed at the aesthetics (;)) of it (visible make up in my opinion....) (well except for Venice which looks truly stunning)I've got my own flat :j:j
Now I have to pay the bills
And feed my interiors addiction0 -
Hi makeup - I remember your trip with parents ( gosh, that shows just how long we've been hanging about here) & how much you enjoyed it.
It was my original plan to have a boat for escaping; but somehow I got a bad case of the 'wants' & ended up sidetracked by camper vans, clothes etc & then got all disheartened when I realised I couldn't have it all so lost focus.
Interestingly, DD told me that she doesnt want a boat either. I replied that that didn't matter one bit, as the boat is for me:D. I know it will take a fair amount of time to save up enough to buy one, so it wont be something that happens quickly, but once I get going with saving, I'll be unstoppable :rotfl:. I hope.
As to The Tourist ... hmmmmm my verdict is " pretty damn dire". I usually enjoy Johnny Depp films but this just didnt hold my attention & whilst some of the scenery was beautiful, I thought that a lot it was not-that-brilliant-backdrops which is a bit disappointing. The 'twist' was very predictable too so, to be honest, I wouldn't recommend it. At all.0 -
I have a feeling you've recently admitted to blowing your Mr T vouchers in store but just on the off chance you haven't £6.50 gets you an adult ticket for the Eden Project. Alternatively I have a huge pile of them in the cupboard and would happily order one for you.
The Lost Gardens of Heligan is an amazing place to visit too.Saving for a Spinning Wheel and other random splurges : £183.500 -
Thanks for kind offer Moo - I still have my tatco vouchers & due to get some more soon so will save for that. Lost gardens is on my list too. A week wont be enough time to do / visit / see everything as we want to have some beach time too if weather permits, but we'll have to go again, hopefully when prices are much reduced too.
Off to make the most of nature's laundry dryer now,
back later with any spending declarations
x0 -
I do need something BIG to aim for to keep me focused.
Thats actually a really good point - I do too!
I need to take DD away somewhere & give her a fab time. So, we are booked into a lovely little riverside cottage that is just 3 miles from the Eden project where, I have wanted to go for ages. The town has a train station so we can get to the coast without using the car & there are just loads of things we do & places to go. So glad I didn't book yesterday as the prices were all reduced this morning but with insurance & booking fees it still came in at £695 .
Great place, and with the need to go in the summer holidays, thats not a bad price either, honestly. You'll love the Eden Project, and there's so much there - its easily a whole day, easily
What I'm trying to say is that my not so-shiny-now CC is now wearing a balance of some £1795.06p.
Hmmm not quite so F***ing Fabulous as what it was wearing yesterday then.
22 weeks until 0% runs out Aaaaaaaaaggggggghhhhhh
Although, this is more like short term, planned (apart from laptop) & interest-free borrowing, rather than stinky old out of control debt.
Absolutely.
I have no idea just how all this is going to work, bearing in mind I still need to buy approx £200 worth of uniform, pay for £350 worth of childcare, purchase a laptop & no doubt all sorts of other things will occur too.
Oops - it ends up being quite a lot then
It will work out though ( ever the optimist ) & my first step towards success is going to be cancelling my holiday from home-job next week & getting my @rse in gear to earn some spending money.
See, you found part of the way forward straight away.
Already wondering how to co ordinate & fund 3 separate savings pots as from November ; 1 for boat, 1 for long hol next summer, & 1 for regular mini breaks in between.
Meticulous spreadsheet use
What a completely bonkers idea ... I love itRosaBernicia wrote: »Hi Lula

I'm seriously considering it too - not for a while, for July 2016, but I'm on the case.girls - I am seriously declutttering my life now & wholeheartedly agree with living lightly.
