We moved house using our car. We're a family of five and have a lot of stuff. It took 20+ trips over several days. The only things we had to put on the roof rack were the double mattress, the settee, and a garden bench (and not at the same time). The only thing we couldn't move with the car was our big fridge/freezer - a passing builder put it on his lorry for £30. But then we had several days in which to move. Not everyone has that luxury.
The time before that when we moved we hired "Man with Van" (he was really called that) for the day for £150 and it took three trips. Man with van doesn't usually shift things - he drinks tea mostly - but will take an end if needed.I am the Cat who walks alone0 -
A plug for a Midlands firm here. Last time we moved, from Middlewich to Stafford, we used a firm called John Lomas of Cannock.
First, they supplied us with the boxes we needed.
Moving 50 miles we moved a thee bed semi and we paid £750 inc VAT and not only did they move us, they also did loads of the packing. When we got to the other end, they helped the vendor's movers get their stuff out to make things go more quickly.I am a mortgage broker. I did this so many times that I swore - never again. I even moved 2 houses down on my own, no van - just moi...and it was a right royal faff.
OP - get a few quotes - you should definitely be able to get that down to less than £500 depending on your location. If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.0 -

Thanks I will definitely get a few quotes, don't want to waste money at such an expensive time, hence my original question and once again you've all helped out. Thanks.0 -
Just as an update, I've been quoted £495 and they will knock £50 off if I use a day they are quiet on. As I can move whenever I think this is fair.
Thanks all for your input.0
