When we got our first dog, I tried telling my partner they eat everything- he didn't believe me. I've raised gundogs, he's only ever had a very old poodle as a child.
He didn't believe me until he headed outside one day and saw the Lab furiously waging war on a concrete block.....

Butcher saves her and the collie huge bones now. :)

We used to give ours the roasted beef knuckles from pets at home, but don't anymore as they were basically coming out the other end as pure sharp bone poos... poor dog. Plus as they're roasted they are cooked so that's no good anyway.

Been meaning to get some raw ones but not many butchers near us.

Yep, but butchers bones in preference to 'shop bought' commercial/deep fried/bleached ones. Pigs trotters also go down well

Obstacles are things a person sees when he takes his eyes off his goal.

I was wondering about this too! ;)

I sometimes get my dog one of these:
    http://www.vetuk.co.uk/dog-treats-hollings-dog-chews-c-223_601_621/mediterranean-mega-meaty-parma-ham-bone-p-4613

Or the bones that have been filled with something like this:
    http://www.vetuk.co.uk/dog-treats-hollings-dog-chews-c-223_601_621/hollings-filled-bone-treat-for-dogs-p-4590

But they seem a bit "fake!" to me and I'm sure they wouldn't be as tasty as a fresh juicy bone. I have a small dog 10kg so if I went to the butchers what would I ask for? Also do they have them at tesco butchers counter?

Could I just buy a chicken wing and give it raw like that? Are the bones in them not too small?

Sorry for all the questions and if that sounds a bit thick :( but I just feel like he's missing out not having stuff like that but am unsure what to get as I just want him to be safe too! :)

absolutely he can..if you are worried, go for a Chicken leg, and hold one end with some pliers (till he can be trusted) I have a friend with a Chi who eats raw!

Yep, mine get bones. Keeps them happy, they sit at either end of the garden distrustfully eyeing eachothers up, then do a big show of standing in the centre of the garden glaring at eachother in a 'showdown' before each nabs the other's bone....Repeat again later....
Never would bite eachother, just both seem to think the other one's must be nicer!

haha! thats exactly what my two do with theirs :rotfl:

They love their pigs trotters too and you can pick them up for pennies if you've got a good butcher nearby.

It definately helps with their teeth too - mine are 5 and 12(ish) and both have practically perfect teeth :D

Can they actually eat the pig trotters or do they just chew/bite them? See I'm totally clueless!!

Well there wasn't a lot of the trotter left when my two have finished with them. A pigs trotter is very gelatinous, rather than boney.

Yep. Never cooked bones or any kind, always raw meaty ones. They love them and tearing the meat from the bone is how they clean their teeth.
