FYI opening Santander ISA for 2011/2012

All

Just in case it helps anyone, I have just made applications online for Santander flexible ISA's for wife and I for tax year 2011-2012. No funding required.

Thanks Matt for the heads up, just applied for mine.

Now need to find a better rate to transfer my current ISA balance into.

  • They are now also stating on the website that they're taking applications for the 2011/12 tax year. Still promising to track 2.8% over the base rate, so they haven't cut the interest...yet.

Yes thats why I opened for the 2011/2012 today - last year they cut the rate after the end of the tax tear.
  • Does this mean I can apply for this ISA even though I've just closed a 2010 / 2011 Cash ISA and used all my allowance. Is this effectively an account that begins in the new tax year?

    Thanks

Sheffield Eagle, regardless of what you have done with this years ISA you can open the 2011/2012 ISA now , just dont deposit any money until the new tax year, Wednesday.

Interesting - my local branch were fine with me opening an account for 2011/12 this morning. Admittedly they were a small one without a personal adviser free, so let me complete the forms myself, but the form had a check box to say which year I wanted it for.

May be that they are stopping people in some branches because they are too busy with all the applications for this year? A pain either way though.

    Hi

I need the help of the ISA experts on here. I tried to apply to Santander's Flexible ISA online and came across the following entry in the application form:
You can link your ISA account to a new Santander Cash Card or use an existing one.

What does that mean? Do I need a cash card to apply for this ISA and what is the purpose of that card? I have never encountered this while applying for ISA accounts in the past. Any ideas?

    Thank you

For some reason Santander think you may want a cash card with an ISA. If you already have a Santander account you can link the ISA with the card you already have.

Just tick the box saying you want a new card if you dont have an existing card with them. Just cut the card up when it arrives if you don't want to use it.

    Hope this helps.
