House Price Crash 4

  • Personally, I can't wait for this long predicted crash.

Then also those who've been predicting it can crow on for a few weeks about how right they were and then we can all enjoy some piece and quiet.

Oh no, I'm expecting to crow about it for at least 10 years - at every dinner party I go to, just like the homeowners have been banging on about their financial genius for that long.

Although I suspect the dinner invites would quickly evaporate if I did that... ;)

All I can say is you must have some very boring associates. Well, here's to the day you can become a justified house crash bore...
  • But it ISN'T getting boring.
    As it's panto season:

    OH YES IT IS !

That's just wishful thinking on your part. You're from the "it didn't crash when they said it would, therefore there's nothing to see here, move along" brigade.

Boring, boring, boring. You HPCers have been saying it for years - as I mentioned on your forum years ago - eventually you will be right and you can all pat yourself on the back - assuming you're still alive !

No stop....theres another factor ive just remembered.
    Picture the scene..this happened.
My wife and I were in a casino in southern spain, we'd had a great night, nice meal, quite a lot of drinks and we decided to go to the casino.
I had 100 euros which i changed to 10 euro chips.
We lost the 90 fairly quickly but we enjoyed it.
The last 10 euro chip i gave to my wife and the roulette wheel near the exit we ventured to.
She put it all on 19. The wheel span and i was ready to walk out. It landed on 19. I had to look twice. She collected her winnings, cashed them in and we left. Later back at the hotel i asked her why 19? She said "It didnt matter which number i chose, i didnt want to win, just wanted to place the bet and enjoy that moment with you".
Like Ive always said it doesnt matter if house prices crash, if they do i'll be sat there with my family enjoying the life we have together, we'll ride the storm and stay there.
  • To all the people who are so bored of this debate, why read the threads/place an answer/get wound up?

There must be over 50 boards on MSE, all with tens and hundreds of threads on them. Why don't you go and find something more to your liking.

Some/many people still enjoy having the debate and there are many new people who are still learning/confused about house prices, who do not find the debate boring.

    Go away bored people.

And yet, and yet, and yet, there's something about the market that gives you that seed of doubt, that niggling worry that makes you come to these threads time after time after time.

If you were so convinced we're all a bunch of panto dames talking gibberish, why would you care?

Face it - you know we're right. But like us, you just don't know *when* we'll be right.

Ahh right, yup, I was confusing the odds of predetermining the 23 roles whereas in fact it's irrelevant. Interesting.

So nothing more than sentiment is effecting your decision, the cold hard maths says it actually makes no difference at all.
Yes, the reason it's called the "gamblers fallacy" is because it seems intuitively right. I agree, seeing 22 Reds in a row makes you think "this is so unusual, a Black must come along soon". The clever thing is that you've already used up most of the "unusualness" in getting that far. It's been a bit of a lightbulb moment for me thinking about it, because I always sort of roughly understood it but hadn't really fully thought it through.

Anyway, on house prices, I have no idea what will happen. As usual, I think houses are overpriced and I can't see where never ending growth would come from. I bought 6 months ago, but I'm at 2xsalary morgage and I could weather a downturn, though I'd rather prices just stayed roughtly where they are or drifted down less than 10% in absolute terms.
    Happy chappy

But that's the problem, isn't it? The timing of the crash is everything.

As I've said before, we bought in 1996 and pretty well continuously since then various pundits have been predicting a crash, or at least a "correction".

Suffice to say we're very glad we've not spent the past ten years renting, waiting for said crash to come.

    .
    Sorry that's wrong.

The pundits in 96 were all telling us that house prices would never again boom because Brits had learnt the painful lessons of rampant speculation.

    What a joke that is.

    People never learn.

Anyway, prices could keep rising by 10% pa and I'd still be better off out of the market, so for me it makes sense to stay out. That might not be the case for others, so that's for them to decide.
