Frugal Living Challenge 2011 - part 2

You know maybe it's me but I've had an MSE fast for a few days and have gotten back to see some posts in which I challenged the logic of folk on here for FL et al being deleted. Now appreciating how fickle the net is and how things can get lost in translation I find it hypocritical for folk to state I'm 'wanted' on FL when most of my posts most of the time get deleted not least when I challenge you corporately. I find myself on iggie with a number of folk for my faith...fair doos. Your loss but it still hurts a wee bit. I find the folk that bullied me last year back and actively worshipped (mentioning no names of course. Believe me....it wasn't pleasant but if they want to push their weight around there's more than enough room for the three of us on MSE). To me 101 folk thanking the bullies, my posts being deleted, me being thanked by about 3 folk and that's only as a marker, and then saying in the next breadth you want me back, hypocritical. I have news....I don't like hypocrites. I'm blunt and often put my foot in it, but I'm honest and WYSIWYG. Please can someone tell me the truth here? Cos I really don't know whether to tell the planet FL thread on MSE is full of ppl who don't understand the limitations of anyone outside their bubbles and can't bare to be challenged or come back? Please can we have an open and honest discussion around this one....not dog fights, just a discussion please....E
Erme, I find some things puzzling about your message. I don't really understand how you can want/expect an open and honest discussion with people you've already labelled as hypocrites - not only is it starting off with an insult, it doesn't even make sense to expect 'hypocrites' to be honest. Well, does it?
Are you saying MSE deleted your posts? If that's the case, they presumably felt there was a reason - I don't think they just delete inoffensive posts for the sake of it - and perhaps you need to think about that, and what their reasons might be. As for putting you on iggie, I've never done it to anyone so far, I didn't even know it was possible until now.
My feeling about you coming back on the thread is that it's here for everybody and you have as much right to be here as I have. However, if I choose not to thank you then that's my right. I think it's a pretty mild sanction and don't expect to be attacked for it. You don't have to thank me, either, if you don't agree with what I say. If after a while I find lots of drama being stirred up and everybody running round in circles not to upset Erme, then I may well put you on ignore. I have plenty of stress in my life already.
I do realise this message is blunt - but it's clear and it's not hypocritical, which is what you said you wanted. So the response from me is, in a nutshell: if you respect others' opinions and choices you are very welcome.'Whatever you dream you can do, begin it. Boldness has genius, power and magic in it. Begin now.' Goethe

Thankyou redglass - you've worded perfectly the response I've been trying to write in my head since Erme posted
Any deleting of posts from anyone (apart from obvious spammers) is nothing to do with me. The only posts I've reported in all my time on MSE has been spam - whether I started the thread or am just another poster on it.Cheryl0 -
Erme I've had a few posts removed ( esp when the banks won the bank charges case grrr) I suspect many others have as well
I don't really know what's gone on and it doesn't really matter - today is a whole new day.
As this is a Frugal Living thread I don't know where other 'areas' of life would fit in with this thread, perhaps that's just my viewpoint though *shrugs*.
I'm sure everyone is more than happy to converse with you on the joys of getting a bargain and the woes of getting by.
You are obviously upset and feel as though you've been treated unfairly? if that's the right way to put it, but I don't think this is the "right" forum for your religious needs, (if indeed this is where the issue is).
Forgive me if I'm wrong, I briefly looked at your post and this is how I read it. However, if it's good old practical 'how to save money' talk you want then this is place to be.
Feel free to correct me because I could be totally barking up the wrong tree, or just plain barking
On another note, hi guys and has anyone heard from minnie at all? She has been occupying my thoughts a lot just lately. I really hope she managed to find help.

And on a totally different note:o (slightly bewildered)
Picked up a tip on using my flask for boiled water on one of the threads. I have been doing this all week and think it is fab.
We boil the kettle fill the flask and just use the flask water for drinks through out the day. I don't know how much this saves but every little helps!
My mums 60th birthday at the weekend was looking like a money gobbler this week and I started to get a little worried. My family wanted me to hold a party but that would have meant me paying for everything and having the mess to clean up..........ummmmmmm no thanks! Then they all wanted to go out for a meal  neither option appealed to my purse which is cowering under the sofa :rotfl:
Managed to talk all the family into turning up to my mums at the same time with an offering of food. Aunt making cake so all it will cost me is a few nibbley bits and bobs!!! (Mr t value peanuts value crisps.........etc). Everyone thought this was a good idea when I pointed out we could all leave when we have had enough:T
Hope your all well xxx0 -
Just recently I've been trying to block spam from Debenhams but without success - don't know what their software does, but it outwits mine every time. However - I'm so glad now because I clicked on their sale email and found a REAL bargain, a single plastic hydrangea blossom reduced from £10 to £8.:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
I don't know which is funnier, the sheer cheek of eight quid (bargain! bargain!) for a single plastic flower or the claim that it's an 'unusual item'. Never seen plastic flowers before, must hurry and order a bunch of them.'Whatever you dream you can do, begin it. Boldness has genius, power and magic in it. Begin now.' Goethe

Wish you'd not told me that, I'm raiding the change jar as we speak! :rotfl:0 -
Hi all - not been around for a few weeks so trying to catch up on posts. Only frugal thing I've done this week is to make soup from the leeks that have been in the garden since last year (not the woody ones!) Need to get my mojo back - did I see somwhere that this weekend is free on ebay?
Hugs to all who might need themSmall victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0 -
hi paidinchickens - that sounds like a fab resolution and much more fun for your mum. and although i've been here since dec i am also bewildered by the turn of coversation.
Redglass and slowly fading - thank you for voicing your own opinions so clearly and calmly. and you both also said what i would want to say on the matter, far better than i could. i've been misunderstood before so do not want to risk being so again.slowlyfading wrote: »To be honest, I don't post on this thread in much detail anymore. It's changed, somehow.
humm, i think i know what you mean. personally i realised i was probably posting too much info (too boring and not needed!), so decided to par down.
maybe people are happy in their new ways? or have fallen so of the wagon they feel they can't share it? i dunno.
I joined it in a pannick over redundancy and now have hopefully got a new job so my needs have changed a bit (though less hours so increased frugality is still needed) (as long as i pass my review on the 6th!). and i've fallen off the wagon through need of moving and those costs, BUT without this thread i would be struggling so much, i've changed habbits, and vitally i dont have impusle deamons draggin my purse to the shops every single lunchtime, so am so very glad of it and those that post here with help advice and care. thank you all.Relax, Breathe, Love 2014 Challenges:Cross Stitch Cafe Challenger 23. Argh poor you didn't know what evening reading was towards the end of last year.......it was a 19th century book on frugal living and tithing...it has changed my opinion about FL....and also tithing (though I do think a mortgage these days is no excuse not to tithe but only if that's your think. I only put that on here for the great debate about tithing that folk google. Not so much for folk on FL who have no desire to cos it's simply not your their thing. Not offended....just saying it for googles sake)....
But you know what thanks so much for the honest replies...it's really appreciated and even on a bad night's sleep (I was making cards till 10.30pm - oops) and hormones running amock I know why I don't like FL anymore. It's part the bullying I had last year from two folk. But that wouldn't put me off for long. It's more that 19th century book I read if that explains things more clearly? I pray it does. (I don't want to offend anyone but I read christian puritans in the evenings when well enough. This one was given to me by a good friend who knew I had probs with money. I know what folk do in the evenings is their business so not trying to push this on anyone it's just what I try to do..:))...
I'm going to delete that post cos yet again I put my size 41's in it.....sorry guys.....
Thanks for the honesty. thanks for the certain pm.....trying to be civil...pray I am.......

Something odd going on as it won't let me quote ......
Anyway, PaidinChickens I've often thought of doing that with my hot water as end up boiling the kettle several times a day - does it stay hot enough?
Have anyone got a shopping trolley on wheels?
If so, recommendations welcome please!
Thinking of getting one - it's quite a walk to the local shop (when I need bits - trying to only go to the supermarket once a fortnight as always buy more than I need) and struggle carrying stuff back. I do use a backpack for heavy stuff but thought a trolley may be good.
There seem to be some bright funky ones around (so hopefully I won't look a total idiot) - however they start around £5 (small, and prob not able to carry much) and work upwards from that.Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)
