In principle i like the theory behind being an internet only Pizza delivery company.
What about trying to link up with sites like just-eat.co.uk?
Not sure that you will be able to generate enough trade consistently to justify your wage, a drivers wage, running costs, etc.0 -
Can't say I'd pay money to have someone buy a pizza from Lidl/Tesco/Asda/Sainsbury, heat it up and then deliver it to me, when I could easily buy and heat it up myself at probably half the price. Pizza Hut offer a choice of about 15 different pizzas in 3 different sizes on 5 different bases plus of course create your own, and offer side dishes, desserts and drinks. OK you can't be expected to offer as much variety as them but you'll have to offer some choice regarding size, base and content. If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0

I agree - they would have to be hand made0 -
Takeaway pizza is highly brand led...think how many people talk about "ordering Domino's" rather than ordering pizza. The fast food industry is very hard to get into if you don't have a brand.
One alternative I've seen work is a small independent that produces very high quality pizzas and caters for those people that want pizza delivered but don't want the overly cheese laden mass market products. I don't think you can compete by lowering quality, only by increasing it.0 -

I was thinking of starting up my own pizza delivery service as domino's, pizza hut are too far away where i live.
My questions are - can i start this from home i.e cook the pizzas from home then deliver them (employ someone to deliver) becuase obviously i dont want to have to pay upfront for a unit and all catering equipment if the business isnt going to take off!
What would happen if someone claimed to have food poisoning - how would i cover myself? what insurance would i need? what qualifications would i need?
Sorry for allt he questions but i need to make sure i can afford this upfront before i jump in!
I would suggest you go and find some work in a local pizza house first, and spend the time trying to understand what is involved and why the business is run as it is"Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -
Probably be a lot more successful by operating a Domino's franchise - lot more outlay of course.0

I used to live in Sherborne, Dorset, and we had a "cottage industry" pizza delivery service there. As I recall they only operated from Thursday to Sunday.
I assume that it must be reasonably successful as they appear to be still trading.0 -

You would also need to be cleared by the council's environmental health department and I think these days you are required to have a basic food hygiene certificate too for something like this. If you telephone them before you start they will come and advise you as to what you need to do to be approved for making and selling stuff like this from home.If you're not behind our soldiers.....please feel free to stand in front of them!0
