cheers for the info so it seems the Intel Core Duo is the predecessor to the Intel Core 2 Duo but is it worth paying over £130 more for it.
the other thing i failed to mention is the COMPAQ C350 has 1024 MB RAM which is says is DDR2 where as the TOSHIBA A100-306 has 1024 MB RAM which only says DDR.
its got me very confused and considering its a lot of money i dont want to opt for the wrong one.
the both of them are on the currys website if thats any help.0 -

DDR2 RAM is more recent and capable of transferring at faster rates than DDR, however you need to know the actual memory modules used to know which machine has the faster RAM. E.g both PC-3200: DDR-SDRAM and PC2-3200: DDR2-SDRAM run at 3.2GB/s.buster1967 wrote:the other thing i failed to mention is the COMPAQ C350 has 1024 MB RAM which is says is DDR2 where as the TOSHIBA A100-306 has 1024 MB RAM which only says DDR.
See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DDR2#Sticks.2FModules and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DDR_SDRAM#Stick.2Fmodule_specification to compare.0 -

There is no right or wrong one. As mentioned above one is newer than the other but unless your wife is a hard code gamer that needs the latest machines every 4/5 months both will be more than enough I'm sure.
I rebuild my machines (desktops) every 2/3 years and tend to buy the very latest available only because I leave it a while before I next upgrade. Of course this comes at a cost and sometimes buying the pervious range of processors can be hell of a lot cheaper.Regards,
Dave
If only I had a pound for every time I used the thanks button

i dont know m8 all it says it DDR2 and the other one just says DDR.
the COMPAQ C350 is £569 and the TOSHIBA A100-306 is £699 obviously they both have different size HD's and the CPU's are different sizes.0 -
Hi
If you really need the performance get the Toshiba but otherwise the Compaq is still a very powerful machine. The 130 quid saved could go towards an extra battery a nice case for the Compaq.0 -
Just seen the Toshiba for 599 quid though:

Comes with free bag and memory stick too!!0 -
The manufacturer's specs will give more detail than the retailer's specs.
E.g. the Toshiba - http://uk.computers.toshiba-europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/jsp/productPage.do?service=UK&PRODUCT_ID=122808 says DDR2 533 MHz0
